It's heartening to see the city engaging in dialogue with Chiefs Francis Laceese, Lennon Solomon, Joe Alphonse, Troy Baptiste, and Councillor James Lulua Jr. about future collaboration and the path towards meaningful reconciliation. However, it's crucial to remember that the journey towards reconciliation and genuine community support extends beyond the conference room. Meetings are a starting point, not the finish line. True progress is measured by the actions we take and the impact of those actions on the ground. Let's also focus on the tangible outcomes that directly affect our communities, like the votes to support initiatives that offer real benefits, such as a homeless shelter aimed at assisting indigenous community members. Reconciliation is a multifaceted process that involves not just discussions but decisive actions that reflect our shared values and commitment to each other. Let's use these meetings not just as photo opportunities but as catalysts for real change that uplifts all members of our community, especially the marginalized and overlooked. Here's to more than just talking the talk but walking the walk together, towards a future where every step we take is one step closer to reconciliation and mutual respect.

#London has seen a major political shift overnight with a sea of red sweeping across the Capital with the new governing party returning 59 MPs in London. With this influx of new MPs comes changing dynamics across London’s constituencies and boroughs. 🔴 We have seen dramatic results with Labour winning a slew of seats with shifts including Chelsea & Fulham, Chipping Barnet, Cities of London & Westminster, Finchley and Golders Green, Bexleyheath and Crayford, and Uxbridge and South Ruislip. 🟡 The Liberal Democrats won Wimbledon, Carshalton and Wallington, and Sutton and Cheam to extend their representation to six seats. 🔵 The Conservatives held on in nine constituencies, all in outer London, including Chingford and Woodford Green, Harrow East, Croydon South, and Bromley and Biggin Hill. TEAMS vs INDEPENDENTS I wanted to take a moment to address the topic of “teams vs independents”. To start off - why did I choose to run with a team and why Unity in particular? 🙌 Well, Unity is a team that has the most hands on local government experience. 🤚 Unity is NOT politically aligned and it includes a group of individuals from diverse backgrounds and experience that are encouraged to think and debate issues “independently” and able to vote according to the needs and wants of the people we represent. 🤝 We can and have worked together and are putting forward a set of seven tangible policies to aid the future growth and direction of the region. We are committed to delivering on these as a team. 👁️ Being a councillor is more than just “advocating” for the people. You need vision and a plan too. And the ability to execute that plan… as a TEAM. Cairns Regional Council is made up of 9 division Councillors and the Mayor. Regardless of who council includes, whether independent or part of a team, these 10 individuals selected by the people must work together as a TEAM with the greater council officers and staff to deliver the needs of the people. Melville’s Mayor Katy Mair and CEO Gail Bowman have failed an openness and transparency test by not properly recording important public questions and the Mayor’s responses in the written minutes of the March 25 Special Meeting of Electors.   This is disrespectful to the Electors that took time to attend the meeting to ask relevant and important questions. We think the omissions of the public questions clearly asked by Mr Mike Burns, Mr David Maynier, and Mr Rob Kronberger and the response provided at the meeting from the minutes was a deliberate act to mitigate any embarrassment to the Mayor and the City. There WAS a recission motion, despite the Mayor’s statements.   The community wants to know what the Elected Members that supported it were thinking; this is a democracy and the Elected Members have a right, and we believe a duty, to share their thoughts with the community that that are disadvantaging. This is a terrible look; it brings the City into disrepute and further erodes any trust the community has in Mayor Katy Mair and the new CEO, Gail Bowman.   Our hopes for an improved culture that the City under the new leadership team are dwindling very fast.    These sorts of tactics used to reduce transparency and omitting key information from official records are reminiscent of the past Russell Aubrey and Shayne Silcox regime. These behaviours falls sort of the conduct we expect from Elected Members and the CEO, and the codes of conduct they are meant to follow.  The community should not accept these behaviours. Council must direct the CEO to amend the written minutes to properly reflect what happened at the meeting. The Meru County Assembly has today embarked upon the intricate procedural endeavor of tabling a third impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, predicated on allegations of egregious misconduct. This recurrent legislative action underscores a profound discontent within the county's political fabric. It is incumbent upon the Meru community to demand a higher echelon of governance. Governor Mwangaza must reconcile with her administrative deficiencies and desist from ascribing the persistent critiques to gendered bias. Our imperative is the pursuit of accountability and socio-economic advancement, devoid of the trappings of hubris or imperiousness. The exigencies of political leadership necessitate a temperament that eschews emotional volatility in favor of judicious stewardship. This is not an indictment of her womanhood, but rather a clarion call for exemplary governance. Meru warrants a leader capable of navigating the intricate dynamics of public administration with sagacity and rectitude.
