It's encouraging to see Inside Philanthropy shine a spotlight on funders supporting the fight against slavery, including The Freedom Fund and our founders Humanity United, Walk Free and Legatum. "[Modern slavery] is a particularly tough problem for philanthropy to tackle, not just because of the many issue areas it involves, but also because, as with drug trafficking, terrorism, state violence and similar problems, it is traditionally governments and law enforcement agencies that have been charged with taking it on directly. Private funders, meanwhile, may feel they have fewer obvious paths in. Nevertheless, there is a rising tide of philanthropic support for groups taking on modern slavery, and that’s encouraging to see. After all, reducing human suffering is a big part of what philanthropy is all about, and it’s hard to think of a bigger and scarier example of widespread human suffering than 50-million-plus enslaved people." https://lnkd.in/emsqBW7R

Our clinic in Honduras is dedicated to providing essential medical services, education, and support to marginalized populations, helping them achieve better health outcomes and greater opportunities. 🌍 Justice means advocating for systemic change, addressing inequalities, and creating environments where everyone can thrive. The work to move people out of poverty is continuous. There is no one answer for it. For nearly 60 years, Community Action Agencies in #MN and nationwide have sought to provide opportunities, housing, education, and equality to traditionally disadvantaged communities. It's not an easy task, nor a short-term one. Ask yourself what you can do today or tomorrow to change inequities throughout established systems. The only two consistent factors in the fourty years we've been addressing #homelessness in the US have been shelters and failure. Finland has shown us that this is not a coincidence. Individuals cannot rebuild their lives on unstable foundations, but providing a sturdy foundation without necessary tools is not enough either. We must commit to providing both #HousingForAll and support services. Let's ditch this 'sheltered/unsheltered' paradigm and work towards a solution that will actually #EndHomelessness. Shout out to Mark Horvath for his great work going above and beyond to investigate what works and what doesn't.
