🌍 Keep Britain Beautiful: The Importance of Reducing Littering 🌿 Littering is a personal bugbear of mine! Do others feel just as frustrated seeing rubbish everywhere! If other countries can keep their environments clean, why can’t we? 🚮❌ Here’s why reducing littering matters: 🦔 Protects Wildlife – Litter is dangerous for animals. 🏞️ Preserves Our Countryside – Keep green spaces beautiful for all. ♻️ Encourages Sustainability – A clean environment fosters care and recycling. 💧 Prevents Pollution – Litter pollutes our rivers and oceans. Let’s respect our surroundings and do our part, whether it’s picking up after ourselves or joining clean-up efforts. 🌳 Together, we can make a difference! 🙌 This is not a new issue and public campaigns across the decades don't appear to be getting the message across to individuals about respecting their environments and surroundings. https://lnkd.in/ennMVKFg What are your top tips for keeping our environment clean? 💬 Share your thoughts! #KeepBritainTidy #LitterFree #RespectOurEnvironment #ProtectNature

Beaches are a place of fun and sun, but sometimes we don't know which beaches are the cleanest. According to an annual report card form the nonprofit Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, we now have the answer. The cleanest public beaches are Pleasure Bya and City Point in South Boston, with Revere Beach and Nantasket beach also getting high marks. A study done by Professor Wendy Heiger-Bernays and alum Beth M. Haley plays a part in this information. For the full article: https://lnkd.in/eStXyCMV

Free Trees for the UK 🌳 🌲 I recently became a Free Tree Ambassador for The Woodland Trust and am helping them award free trees to public places in the UK. Our aim is to get millions more trees in the ground. With just 13% tree coverage, the UK lags far behind the global average of 31%. Here's where we can help! The Trust are currently taking applications for tree packs to be delivered this November 2024. Applications will close in August (or sooner, depending on stock availability). Who is Eligible? 🍃 Groups such as resident associations, sports clubs, parish councils, scouts, guides and many more 🍃 Schools, nurseries, colleges, universities and outdoor learning centres What is the Criteria? 🍃 The land where the trees will be planted should be publicly accessible or have regular public access. 🍃 If the trees are to be planted on private land such as large gardens or paddocks, there should be genuine public access. There are other options for those not eligible for this scheme. You can buy tree packs, or or take advantage of subsidised tree packs and projects such as our schemes for landowners and farmers. `````````````````````````` 🍃 Apply for Free Trees: https://lnkd.in/ehaGVmC6 🍃 Apply for Landowner and Farmer Scheme: https://lnkd.in/eWG_V2AB Please like, comment + share 🫶 #Trees #Environment #Climate #Decarbonisation #NetZero #JourneytoZero

Join us in supporting the suggestion from the #woodlandtrust to take this opportunity to leverage our MP's during this election cycle. 🌿 Did you know the General Election results will impact nature in your local area? Your elected MP plays a crucial role in advocating policies and legislation that protect and restore woods, trees, and other green spaces across the UK, including where you live. Successful candidates will make important decisions about nature over the next five years, and these impacts will last for generations. Putting woods and trees high on the political agenda is crucial. 🌳 The 4 July election is a huge opportunity to encourage future decision-makers to recognize the value of trees in our communities. Let’s tackle the nature and climate crises together and create a brighter, healthier future for people and wildlife. Join us in urging election candidates to champion: 1. Funding and support to help local authorities #planttrees where they’re needed most, so the benefits of increased tree cover can be felt by everyone. 2. Support for land managers to plant and manage native #woodland. 3. New forestry legislation to protect and improve the public forest estate for the long-term benefit of people, #wildlife, and #climate. 4. New laws to better protect our most important ancient trees and ancient woods. 5. A new Trees Action Plan for England that sets out the funding and actions needed to deliver for people, nature, and climate. Our combined voices have the power to make change happen. 🌎🗣️ https://lnkd.in/dvBGsqw (This post has been curated from the Woodland Trust newsletter.)

We have a pretty efficient system at the food bank to keep food waste out of the landfill. We even use the food unfit for distribution to local farms. #stopfoodwaste #endhunger #foodsupply #supplychain #reducefoodwaste
Food rescue is just one way #RoadrunnerFoodBank works to #reducefoodwaste. Last year we rescued 18,104,297 pounds of food otherwise headed for the landfill. That food was then redirected into the homes of New Mexicans facing hunger. Working with local, national, and international sellers, #foodrescue helps us feed more people and saves resources.

➡ Swipe to jump back by 6 months This is our largest and most remote #Dartmoor peatland restoration site to date, where SWPP worked through last winter to raise and stabilise the water table. Contractors tackled the ongoing drying out of peat by slowing down the flow of water, blocking drains and erosion channels. Pools of water formed immediately behind the blocks (second image) and it's great to see it all 6 months on, as works resume on other parts of the site for the season, all greened up and the first peat-forming sphagnum mosses colonising these pools (first image). We're working in partnership to restore our incredible peatlands across Cornwall, Exmoor and Dartmoor so that insects, plants, and birds can thrive, carbon is kept in the ground, water quality is improved and the conditions are created for peat to form once more. SWPP is proud to be a collective of 20+ organisations working together with landowners, farmers, commoners, charities, local interest groups and volunteers to restore dried and degraded peatlands across the South West. SWPP is funded by Natural England South West Water #DuchyOfCornwall National Trust Cornwall Council Environment Agency IUCN UK Peatland Programme
