It was great to attend the Durham Business Group networking event today at the Poplar Tree Garden Centre, where we got to see inside the newly opened Unbox holiday lodges. The lodges are constructed from converted shipping containers, which transported me right back to my Architectural Techology days. Even on a grey day like today, it felt so peaceful & serene. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in or visiting County Durham. Anyway, it was lovely to meet some new people today and share a conversation about what we do at Point North. If you’re a business (small or large) or an individual and you want to make a difference in your community, the first step that you can take is making the intention. Once you make that intention- commit to it. It’s never too late to start making a difference but now more than ever our communities need us. All of us. And that includes you. So maybe it’s worth having the initial conversation with your team or even yourself. What are your CSR/ESG responsibilities? Do you have a plan in place? How are you acheveing, or going to achieve, what you set out to do?

HOT OFF THE PRESS: Our latest industry brief, "A Catalyst for Community Vitality: Defining the 21st Century Destination Organization". If you've ever wondered how destination organizations came to be and what it takes for them to thrive, this industry brief is worth the read. “If you build a place where people want to visit, you’ll build a place where people want to live. If you build a place where people want to live, you’ll build a place where people want to work. If you build a place where people want to work, you’ll build a place where business wants to be. And, if you build a place where business wants to be, we’ll be back to building a place where people want to visit. Denver stands out as a safe and attractive destination for meetings and conventions. With its low violent crime rate compared to other major U.S. cities and strong performance in financial safety metrics, the city offers a secure environment for business travelers and event attendees. The Colorado Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown, provides a modern and accessible venue for gatherings of all sizes. While Denver, like any urban area, has its challenges, the city's ongoing efforts to improve safety and cleanliness, particularly in the downtown area, contribute to its appeal as a convention destination. Visitors can enjoy the city's vibrant atmosphere and nearby attractions while taking standard urban precautions, making Denver a solid choice for event planners seeking a safe and engaging location for their next meeting or convention. Safety & Security Downtown residents and neighborhood associations report that things are looking up in terms of safety and cleanliness. Rob Squire from the Upper Downtown Neighborhood Association states that the area is now 100% encampment-free and feels safer for both residents and formerly unhoused individuals. See below for a link to the Downtown Denver Partnership's Clean and Safe initiatives ... https://lnkd.in/gBeCFMqS Downtown Denver Environment Denver is a large, vibrant, diverse urban city and like many other peer cities we are actively working with a number of partners to address challenges and concerns that we are all facing. Below you'll find a link to the Clean & Safe Resource Guide, which addresses Public Safety, Downtown Recovery / Activation, Clean / Welcoming Initiatives, the Mayor's Public Safety Action Plan, Innovative Program and downtown Denver Action Partners ... https://lnkd.in/gkFpwSkt Downtown Recovery and Activation A new downtown recovery investment led by Denver Economic Development & Opportunity (DEDO) and approved by Denver City Council is directing $2.4M in a contract with the Downtown Denver Partnership and the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District to create an 18-month activation push involving investments in pop-up and existing businesses, restaurants and events, support for entrepreneurs, and design elements for crime prevention and reduction. The 16th Street Mall is one of our city’s most vital pedestrian and transit connectors and important public spaces, and stewarding its successful future is a key priority for many stakeholders. The Mall is undergoing a $150 million redesign, which will include relocating the bus transit lanes to the center, expanding sidewalks for walking, more café seating and programming. These updates are designed to enhance the Mall experience while improving pedestrian safety and mobility.

What makes events true cultural anchors in NYC? Honestly, it’s simple: they’re more than just gatherings—they’re real experiences people connect with. I always approach our events with the goal of creating something lasting. At MASC, it’s about more than just selling—it’s about building a space where people feel connected, where stories are shared, and where NYC’s unique energy shines through. Each neighborhood has its character, and when we tap into that, we’re not just hosting an event; we’re making memories and building loyalty that lasts. Does anyone else find that events are one of the best ways to connect with NYC communities?

As I wrap up week 4 at Real Life Options, attending the recent My Voice conferences in Dunfermline and Newcastle has been an eye-opening experience. These events have given me a deeper understanding of what Real Life Options truly stands for, and I’m even more excited to help drive our marketing forward. One key takeaway from the conferences was the conversation around employability for the individuals we support. Listening to those who have found work and hearing how much it enriches their lives—giving them a sense of purpose—was incredibly inspiring. But equally moving were the stories from those who are struggling to find employment, despite their strong desire and passion to contribute. It’s disheartening to hear that so many feel ignored, but I’m proud to see Real Life Options exploring ways to help people with disabilities seek and secure meaningful work. I feel privileged to be part of an organisation so committed to giving people the support and opportunities they need to live fulfilling lives. My aim now is to help Real Life Options raise awareness of all the incredible work we do to empower individuals and champion their independence. I can't wait to get started! So, for my connections reading this: If you haven't already, please follow Real Life Options and give their posts a thumbs up. Help us make a difference by sharing the work we do and amplifying our message. Together, we can make a real impact! #followus #like #makeadifference #charity

The voices we heard at these conferences were both moving and empowering. They embody the core values of Real Life Options: honesty, respect, excellence, and responsibility. Every person who shared their story has contributed to a broader conversation about inclusion and choice and the varied ways people live fulfilling lives. It is a privilege for Real Life Options to support them on their paths. Easy to moderate a panel when the panelists are all not only experts in their fields, but great human beings as well!
Last week, President & CEO Nella McOsker participated in a panel entitled “Planning Downtown LA’s Future: DTLA 2040” alongside panelists Craig Weber, Principal Planner for Los Angeles City Planning and Jenny Chavez, Senior Vice President of LA Tourism. The panel was moderated by Areen Ibranossian, CEO of Chief Strategies and LANI and CCA Board Member. Facilitating the Monthly Members Coffees for the Conception Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is always so energizing and insightful! I left today’s energizing session with these three thoughts that I want to remember: 1) How much value there always is in small group discussion and reflection. 2) How much rich expertise lies within our brilliant Chamber community. Facilitating is not about being an expert. It is about creating a safe space for expertise and ideas to be shared, for all voices to be heard, and for connections to be made and fostered. 3) How important genuine connection and purpose is to our health. I am sharing this as a reminder to myself and to anyone who needs it: space for reflection, growth, and genuine connection is always worth it! Does this resonate? #connection #growth #reflection #businessdevelopment #community Grateful for each member of today’s small but mighty crew: Kara Roberts Darryl Lane Michelle Hawco Darcy Lynn Hillier Treena Nippard Sean Mitton Alison Butler Mark Fagan VictoriaJones BrandonCooney
