HOT OFF THE PRESS: Our latest industry brief, "A Catalyst for Community Vitality: Defining the 21st Century Destination Organization". If you've ever wondered how destination organizations came to be and what it takes for them to thrive, this industry brief is worth the read. “If you build a place where people want to visit, you’ll build a place where people want to live. If you build a place where people want to live, you’ll build a place where people want to work. If you build a place where people want to work, you’ll build a place where business wants to be. And, if you build a place where business wants to be, we’ll be back to building a place where people want to visit. It all starts with the visit and that visit doesn’t happen without us.” This quote from former DI Board Chair Maura Gast, FCDME helped shape the definition of a destination organization as we know it today. Living and working in Newport Beach shows me every day how important a strong community is. In real estate, and in any job, building a community isn’t just nice—it’s necessary. Helping local businesses, joining community events, and making real connections can make life better for everyone. Here are a few ways to add value to your community: Support Local Businesses: Shop locally and recommend local businesses to others. Engage in Community Events: Participate in or sponsor local events to stay connected. Build Genuine Connections: Take the time to get to know your neighbors and clients personally. Share Your Expertise: Offer your knowledge and skills to help others in the community. Promote Local Opportunities: Use your platform to highlight local events, businesses, and opportunities. How do you build community in your work? What tips do you have for creating value for your clients and community? Let's share our ideas and support each other in making our communities stronger. It was great to attend the Durham Business Group networking event today at the Poplar Tree Garden Centre, where we got to see inside the newly opened Unbox holiday lodges. The lodges are constructed from converted shipping containers, which transported me right back to my Architectural Techology days. Even on a grey day like today, it felt so peaceful & serene. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in or visiting County Durham. Anyway, it was lovely to meet some new people today and share a conversation about what we do at Point North. If you’re a business (small or large) or an individual and you want to make a difference in your community, the first step that you can take is making the intention. Once you make that intention- commit to it. It’s never too late to start making a difference but now more than ever our communities need us. All of us. And that includes you. So maybe it’s worth having the initial conversation with your team or even yourself. What are your CSR/ESG responsibilities? Do you have a plan in place? How are you acheveing, or going to achieve, what you set out to do?

Winners are grinners! 😁 The City of Cockburn and SpacetoCo took out the ‘Best Use of Technology’ award at the Parks and Leisure Australia (WA) Awards for Excellence 2024. The win celebrates the innovative approach to improving the utilisation of community recreation facilities, while significantly reducing administration times for the City and its customers. The cutting-edge technology streamlines the booking process for community and sporting facilities, making it easier and faster for residents to find and book local venues. The City has seen a remarkable 25% increase in facility bookings and 62% reduction in customer service calls to the City’s recreation team since implementing this technology. Mayor Logan Howlett acknowledged the win was not just about the award, or even the partnership, but about the efficiencies gained through automated processes and increased facility usage. "Finding efficiencies through the use of technology is an ongoing focus for the City," Mayor Howlett said. “The success of this initiative not only demonstrates the power of technology in enhancing community engagement, but also sets a benchmark for other local governments to follow." L-R: Jeremy Hurst from SpacetoCo, and Kylie Santich and Nathan Johnston from City of Cockburn.
