Lovell raises a cup to Homes for Life to mark Scottish Housing Day To celebrate #ScottishHousingDay, Head of Partnerships for Lovell Partnerships Ltd in Scotland Sarah Freel CIHCM & Ann Pickering from North Lanarkshire Council joined a long-term resident in Holytown for afternoon tea. This year, Scottish Housing Day highlights the role well-designed housing plays in helping older adults live independently. In Holytown, Lovell built 20 houses, which were designed in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council. Mrs Margaret Williamson, one of the first residents, said: "I've been here for 14 years since the house was built. It's all on one level, which is ideal at my age. It's spacious, filled with light, and right on the main street. I sit on my couch and see everyone go by, which makes me feel part of the neighbourhood. It's perfect." Each Lovell home, for social rent or private sale, is designed with energy efficiency as a priority and are built in locations with vibrant communities, access to local amenities and transport options, which support residents of all ages. Can #AffordableHousing truly knit a community back together? How often do we witness transformative developments that genuinely improve lives? Recently, the James Lewis Jr. Apartments were featured in The Post and Courier (written by Ali Rockett), highlighting the significant impact the community has on the lives of residents and the community on Charleston's East Side. Esther Davis, a resident of the complex, shared her journey from a challenging past to finding peace (and a fresh start) in her new home in Charleston. Her story bears witness to the development’s #CommunityImpact, which provides a sense of ownership and pride. The building, which houses 64 affordable units for those earning 60 percent or below of the Area Median Income, filled up within 30 days of opening — a clear indicator of the critical need for such housing. The city's contribution of $7 million through Affordable Housing and the strategic lease of land at $1 per year underscore a commitment to affordable housing that ensures long-term community benefits. The property's design to revert ownership back to the city after 60 years guarantees that it will remain an affordable haven perpetually. This development, which took nearly 14 years from planning to completion, is not just about building homes but about restoring a fragmented community. The vision of leaders like Councilman James Lewis, Jr., who championed affordable housing to "knit back together" the East Side, is now a living reality. Let's celebrate these milestones in affordable housing and continue to support initiatives that offer more than just a roof but a pathway to a better life. Big news in Boston Real Estate- Dorchester's St. Mary's Center is set to receive a new affordable housing facility. With 40 units up for grabs, this is a promising model combining low-income housing, community, and commerce. But it does spark questions. Are we doing enough to provide a pathway from homelessness to home ownership in our developments? Consider this: 11 out of the 40 units in this project are reserved for families transitioning from homelessness. That’s a sight for sore eyes. But can we do more? Safe, affordable housing is pivotal for community growth, and this project amplifies the role real estate plays in changing lives. Now, reflect on your property portfolio- how does it support families in need? How can you integrate affordability into your real estate strategy without compromising growth? How can your projects foster community cohesion? If these questions leave you scratching your head, it might be time for a chat. Drop me a line- let’s explore ways to make Boston Real Estate accessible for everyone without compromising your business growth. Because in our concrete jungles, there’s room for everyone to thrive if we pave the way. #BostonRealEstate #Boston #BostonRealtor #TurcoGroup #eXpRealty #BostonCondo #BostonHome #MovemetoBoston

Housing Nightmares: The Real Monsters Behind the Affordable Housing Crisis This Halloween, we’re highlighting some true horrors in the housing world that make building affordable homes a real nightmare: Endless Red Tape - Complicated processes and overwhelming paperwork stall even the most promising projects. Soaring Taxes & Fees - High development charges and taxes are scaring away affordable housing opportunities, leaving developers—and communities—paying the price. DC Waivers - The challenge of accessing these crucial fee reductions often leaves projects stuck in limbo, making it harder to bring affordable housing to life. Government Regulations - Layers of regulations intended for safety sometimes spiral into unnecessary barriers, leaving housing projects tangled in a web of delays. High Interest Rates - Rising rates are squeezing budgets, pushing homes out of reach for too many families. NIMBYism: Local opposition can delay or block vital projects, making it harder to bring much-needed housing into communities. At Spotlight Development Inc., we’re working to break through these obstacles and create pathways for affordable, community-driven housing. By focusing on collaboration, advocacy, and innovative solutions, we’re dedicated to turning these nightmares into new homes and communities that work for everyone. The notion of living in a community that is designed and managed by its members, with shared spaces to meet and socialise, to grow food and engage in leisure activities is increasing in popularity. At Wrigleys, our specialist community-led housing team have been working with and advising cohousing groups for well over a decade. In our experience, whilst no two groups are ever quite the same in shape, size and ethos, there are some common issues to think about. To help answer some of the key questions we are asked by individuals and groups who are exploring the concept of cohousing, we have worked in partnership with UK Cohousing Network to produce a guide which covers the key issues to consider when thinking about joining a cohousing community. The guide summarises the different roles and responsibilities that members of cohousing groups will be taking on. It also touches on the issues that they need to consider when investing in a cohousing community project, whether that is investing financially or purchasing a property within a cohousing scheme. Follow the link to access the guide and please contact us if you have questions. https://lnkd.in/ehVrm3ua #cohousing #communityledhousing #peoplepoweredhomes
