The IdeaSquare Planet (i2Planet) pilot programme is a disruptive innovation course that seeks to elevate students’ knowledge, skills, and problem-solving abilities in connection with the Sustainable Development Goals, and to challenge their assumptions about the future. At its core, this approach hinges on a bold question: What if humanity were compelled to start anew on an entirely different planet? How could we make choices that prioritise sustainability? Moreover, could the knowledge gained during this cosmic journey be applied effectively to solve real-world challenges on Earth? The programme is co-designed by IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN, and the partner institutions it collaborates with. Each course is tailored to the specific needs of the institutions’ curricula. Recently, a pilot was co-designed with Fusion Point, which is a collaboration between Esade, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and IED Barcelona. The objective was to challenge students to apply their expertise in, among others, engineering, design, business, agri-food engineering, and innovation to address critical issues related to survival, societal organisation, scarcity of resources, and extreme environmental conditions. A Reminder and an Update: On 19 March, Leuven MindGate will be hosting its Future Generations Conference between 12:00 and 19:00 in both Leuven’s historic city hall and STUK student centre. This conference brings together over 50 speakers, including visionaries, thought leaders, policy makers, and pioneers, who seek to question and explore how global society can create a sustainable, future-oriented vision of society.   The conference represents the culmination of a week-long festival that runs from the 16th of March to the 20th of March and brings together Art, Science, and the City of Leuven to showcase a collective insight into our future lives.   While Saturday focuses on the workplace of the future, Sunday 17th of March highlights the impressive technological developments of today by asking Flemish tech and innovation companies to open their doors to the general public and show off their latest achievements. These companies include imec, who are showing off brand new VR applications and holograms, and Brightlab, who have organised a workshop that centres on a performance by Improbotics’ improvisational theatre with and about AI.   KU Leuven - Group T Leuven Campus is also opening its door to offer tours of its campus, the largest and most international group within the Faculty of Engineering Technology, to show off some of its own pioneering and innovative projects. DIN-ECO Hackathon Recap: A Day of Business Innovation  Yesterday at the DIN-ECO Hackathon, 11 teams of Master's and PhD students from all over the continent presented their business ideas in technology, health, and manufacturing fields. The panel of judges, comprising academics and industry professionals, faced the challenging task of evaluating these innovative projects. 🤝 Despite the limited time, the teams demonstrated how collaboration and shared visions can lead to innovative solutions. This event underscored the importance of joining forces and collective ingenuity in addressing complex challenges. 👏 Applause for the Winners: Warm congratulations to the winning teams - InterMover, Roxarm, and Mirror of the Future - who stood out in various project categories. These teams will have the opportunity to actively participate in the Consortium's upcoming initiatives, including the Spring School. 🌟 Special Mentions: Special recognition also goes to The Bespoke Online Creation Platform, Smart Vision, and Anti-Atrophy Knee Orthosis, which will also receive an award. These projects have shown a high level of innovation and potential impact in their respective fields. We also helped establish and started coordinating Xarxa RDI-IA, a Catalan hub for #AI #techtransfer & #knowledgevalorization.   👩🎓 9 new #CVCPhDs within the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona PhD programme 👉 cvc.uab.es/phd/. Furthermore, in 2023, we trained +55 students from different academic levels 🎓   💡 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡: Through #ExperimentAI project, school visits & education activities, AI dissemination seminars and other #socialimpact initiatives, #CVC actively bridged the gap between citizens and AI. 📰 In the media, we had 121 mentions from TV or radio to websites and press! We received 16 schools and +620 high-school students & we have participated in several events such as #FestadelaCiència, #OLLD2023, #MEMEnginyUAB, #BojosperlaIA. Our project #ExperimentAI for citizen reflection on the impact of AI reached 170 citizens, 23 experts & 8 public libraries.    ✨2023 has been a phenomenal year, but more exciting things are coming in 2024!✨ Thank you all for being part of our journey!
