Instead of holding the doors open for those who will follow, there's a sense of ownership that prevails, as if success were a finite resource to be hoarded rather than shared. This fixation on ownership can lead individuals to lose sight of the bigger picture, creating a bubble around themselves that shields them from potential connections and opportunities within the industry. While it's natural to celebrate one's accomplishments, it's crucial not to let them inflate one's ego to the point of exclusion. After all, true progress in the sector lies not in individual triumphs, but in the collective elevation of voices and perspectives that have long been marginalized. As a devoted KPOP fan for a decade, the recent collaboration between Louis Vuitton and the rising idol group, RIIZE, has captured my attention. The selection of such a young group—averaging just 21.4 years old, with a mere three months in the industry—is unprecedented in KPOP history. Louis Vuitton's strategic move to appoint RIIZE as House Ambassadors appears to be a well-calculated decision, aligning seamlessly with the youthful aesthetic of Louis Vuitton's current designs. This choice signifies Louis Vuitton's keen focus on the burgeoning young Asian consumer demographic. While cheering for these talented artists to be recognised, I can't help but sweat LV's decision. Because in the three short months since RIIZE’s debut, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding. While in the context of Western culture these implications are insignificant, in Asian culture these events are not trivial. However, as the Chinese saying goes, “Wealth is obtained from taking risks (富贵险中求),” it could be argued that these controversies might bring Louis Vuitton exposure and discussion, boosting its brand attention and consumer interaction. It’s a daring branding strategy, and I’m intrigued to witness how both the Asian consumer base and Louis Vuitton respond. The fashion and entertainment industries are dynamic, and this move reflects a strategic alignment with current market trends. The Arnault family already holds several positions within LVMH's board, leading to a division of opinion. Critics argue that such appointments may be underserved and a product of nepotism, while proponents defend the practice as a rightful way to preserve the business within the family. The French don't like it when family members get special treatment in business, a feeling that goes back to the time of the French Revolution. This brings up a big question: if a small family business becomes a huge company, should it still be run only by the family, or should it bring in people from outside the family? There's also a debate about whether the people who complain about family favoritism would do the same thing and give jobs to their own families if they had the chance. And as we are at this unprecedented moment with five generations in the workplace, I had the opportunity to take a longer-term lens on that centrality of culture as the focus of a special Masterclass on LVMH. ➡ The ‘fil rouge’ of culture – Part of the ‘LVMH effect’ that is less talked about is the red thread connecting culture on the inside to long-term value creation. At the centre of everything is a hardwired investment in knowledge and knowledge transfer, with dedicated investments from innovation to creativity, from rising talent to leadership.   ➡ Succession and next generation leadership – a family-run business, LVMH has four generations of the Arnault family within the brands and operating across categories. As we plan for succession and thinking about nextgen leadership, it opened up a wider thought on how we are building the responsibility of leadership into our organisational culture.   ➡ The blurring and blending of categories – Part of LVMH's success over time has been in the art of collaboration. That collaborative philosophy takes on deeper levels in the creativity across genres that has emerged across art & luxury, haute & street, fashion and sport, experiences and entertainment.
