Here's the very first thing I learned in my first job in Partnerships 20 years ago: Partnerships is a balance between partner advocacy and company strategy. It's easy to hear that, nod along, and say "sure, that's obvious" It's a lot harder in practice to keep that balance. Especially when you believe that your job is practicing good partnership and relationship management. That can get you into trouble because the only reason a partnership works is if BOTH sides see the value of the deal. Without that balance, one side will see less and less motivation to continue investing in maintaining a partnership And the whole thing falls apart.

This is what happens when you try & "surprise" your cousin at her graduation 🤣 In all seriousness, what started as an excuse to come back home has turned into one of the highlights of my professional career :: To bring a Closers Media/Coffee&Closers level experience to my home town of Hawley, MN featuring some of the biggest shakers & movers to graduate in the area to share war stories, insight & inspiration to those lucky enough to get in. Exciting Connections and Unforeseen Opportunities! Back in May, I took a trip to Charleston. My trip was to nurture a valuable customer relationship that IronLink services in New Jersey and chat about them expanding to our new facility at Charleston. However, as fate would have it, the meeting's outcome didn’t turn out to be what I expected. The meeting didn't go as planned, and I have to admit, I felt a bit down when I got back. But hold on a sec, here's the cool twist! While I was in Charleston, I caught up with an old buddy. And you won't believe it – this pal introduced me to this awesome guy named Carl. Little did I know, Carl and I were about to hit it off big time. Flash forward to today – Carl is now a friend and trusted (business) partner! Can you believe it? Turns out, that trip that seemed like a bummer initially wasn't a waste of time at all. It's funny how life's twists and turns can lead to awesome things. The chat with our NJ customer might not have led to Charleston plans, but my meet-up with Carl? It ended up being a total game-changer. Every chat, every coffee meet-up, they all add up. Life's a journey with some unexpected detours, but each pit stop teaches us something cool.
