I am so #thrilled with the over 7.6 million #people reached through mass media #programming and 68,964 #individuals #reached via community #engagement, the #impact that the #ASBC Activity funded by USAID Ghana and implementing by FHI 360 and its #consortium members. The past 3 years of #implementation has witnessed and #impressive #reductions in under 5 #mortality due to #malaria, increases in attendance at #antenatal and #PNC care #services points, and a #decrease in cases of #malaria among #pregnant women. Using the #Community #Engagement for #Health and #Welbeing approach, the #ASBC is #accelerating #sustain social #behavior change #across health areas, especially in the #fight against #malaria.

The presidential community engagement team with our partners have initiated sub national community conversation to end malaria in Nigeria . Currently, we are in Lagos for a stakeholder listening and messaging workshop .key findings of the workshop will be carried into subnational conversations across the 6 geo-political zones. These sub-national conversations will engage citizens, communities, community leaders,associations and other citizens’ platforms in deep dive conversations on cross sector interventions towards malaria elimination based on their lived realities. Malaria continues to impose a significant impact on communities in Cameroon. With almost 2 million annual cases and 20,000 deaths nationwide, it remains a major public health concern, particularly among young children. The Northwest and Southwest are particularly vulnerable because to continuing wars that have disrupted local healthcare systems. Poverty has also hampered access to critical malaria preventive and treatment services in these volatile regions. An integrated approach including vector control measures, intermittent preventative therapy, and community education is required. 🎉 Reflecting on #2023, a year of making strides in #malaria prevention and control at Malaria Partners International, all thanks to your unwavering support. Here's what we achieved together: ⛑️Community Health Workers: We've trained a total of 4,056 Community Health Workers (#CHWs) and supported 'refresher' trainings to 1,386 existing CHWs. These health workers are actively serving over 2 million people in malaria-endemic regions. 🏥Supporting Healthcare Infrastructure: We've reached over 250 rural health facilities. Each partnered with CHWs providing localized healthcare services. This strengthens the facility's capacity to provide critical #healthcare services while playing a vital role in our ongoing efforts to control and eliminate malaria in these communities. 🌍Rotary's support with Partners for a Malaria-Free #Zambia: The #Rotary network is a driving force in our malaria elimination efforts, particularly within the Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia Global Grant. #Rotarians from 19 Zambian Rotary and #Rotaract clubs contributed 5,560 volunteer hours to help train, equip and support CHWs providing village-based malaria testing and treatment in rural areas. As we enter 2024, we continue with the momentum gained from last year's achievements. Together, we're moving toward a malaria-free future.

As we look forward to celebrating #DayoftheAfricanChild, it would be remiss of us not to speak about this year's theme: #EducationforAll Children in Africa: the Time is Now. This is because #education is a pivotal catalyst for socioeconomic development. Anything that obstructs access to quality education, such as malaria, undermines this progress. Hence, supporting initiatives to control and eradicate malaria is not solely about enhancing children's health outcomes but also about fostering improved educational achievements. Malaria disproportionately affects those in situations of greatest poverty and vulnerability, with young children in Africa suffering the greatest mortality, according to the World Health Organization. The USAID-funded Uganda Health Activity – implemented by URC and our partners – is working to help the vulnerable by coordinating with other USAID health implementing partners to help the Uganda Ministry of Health carry out integrated community health outreaches. These events offer a wide range of services, including malaria testing and treatment. Through this support, health facility staff also are being trained and mentored to monitor weekly stock status of essential commodities, including artemisinin-based combination therapy, a key treatment for malaria in Uganda. National End Malaria Councils and Funds are multisectoral bodies promoting advocacy, action, resource mobilisation, and accountability for the fight against #malaria. To date, Councils and Funds have mobilised more than USD 50 million for national malaria control programs. According to WHO 2022, malaria is a serious public health concern in Nigeria, accounting for an anticipated 68 million cases and 194 000 deaths in 2021. Nigeria has the world's greatest malaria load, accounting for roughly 27% of the global total. As part of YEDI's commitment to eliminating malaria in Nigeria, the YEDI’s SKILLZ program has reached over 450,000 adolescents in Nigeria with accurate and understandable messaging. In addition, YEDI conducts community medical outreaches in hard-to-reach areas, providing free medical services and bednets. This has reached over 10 000. HOW INCLUSIVE IS OUR MALARIA PREVENTION EFFORTS? From the UBOS Uganda Bureau of Statistics Census report 2016, 12.4% of the Uganda population live with some form of disability, translating to approximately 4.5 million Ugandans. Diving deeper into these statistics, the highest forms of disability estimated are difficulties in seeing (6.5%), difficulties in remembering (5.4%), difficulties in walking (4.5%), and difficulties in hearing (3.1%). All those forms of Disabilities may have a bearing on efforts toward malaria prevention. The exclusion, isolation, fear and neglect of person with Disability , makes it difficult for them to access insecticide treated net (ITN) and use them effectively. How can we ensure the 4.5 million person with Disabilities in Uganda have access to ITN and can effectively use them?
