Are you familiar with the CROWN Act? It was passed in California in 2019. The CROWN Act makes workplace discrimination on the basis of hair texture or style unlawful. California was the first state to ban this type of discrimination, and now several other states and cities have passed similar laws. But here’s the thing: A Federal CROWN Act passed in the House but didn’t get through the Senate. The Crown Act outlaws discrimination against Black people because of their hair. It is outrageous that we even need a law that says you can wear your hair the way it naturally grows. Since discrimination against Black people at work is unlawful, shouldn’t discrimination against Black people on the basis of wearing Black hairstyles also be unlawful? No, we needed a whole separate law for that. And as of today, it is not the law of the land. We have a long way to go to make work more inclusive.

Although the decision dates back to 2022, it is particularly interesting because it illustrates several principles applicable to respect at work policies (including anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies). Generally, there are 7 Rights that are recognized and accepted worldwide. It is the duty of a Consumer to know his rights. I have listed out a basic idea on them.
