Walsworth once again received a Top 25 ranking in the Orange County Business Journal’s list of Women-Owned Businesses. The firm is ranked 23rd, up two spots from last year. We are also the only law firm ranked in the Top 30. Companies on the list are majority-owned by women and ranked on 2023 revenue. Women lawyers, including Managing Partner Dee C., compose 84 percent of the firm’s equity partners and own 80 percent of the firm. Our ranking further validates the recognition Walsworth has received nationally in recent years, including Top 5 rankings in Law360’s 2023 Women in Law Report, which ranks U.S. law firms based on female representation at all attorney levels and Law360’s “Ceiling Smashers” report, which ranks U.S. law firms based on female representation at the equity partner level. Celebrate Women's History Month with us as we recognize and share the extraordinary contributions of women! Thompson Coburn is pleased to spotlight the achievements and contributions of our trailblazing women within our firm and in our communities. In today's Q&A spotlight, we feature Katherine Murchison, a New York associate in the business litigation group. Katherine's practice supports complex commercial and fiduciary litigation across the United States. Q: What advice would you give to women looking to advance their careers? A: My advice for all women is to be confident. There is a unique power in trusting yourself and your intuition. You will be amazed by the strength you can find within if you look for it. Don’t let anyone make you feel small. Speak boldly and hold your head high. Q: What role has mentorship played in your professional growth? A: I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the folks who saw potential and poured into me. Time is the most precious resource, and I am honored by the many people who have shared theirs with me. A close mentor once said “You’d be surprised what happens when you push a door open.” I’ve always liked this distinction from the idea that opportunities would simply open before me. Instead, I often keep a look out for small openings that may lead to greatness if acted upon. Licensed Attorney in North Carolina and South Carolina | Currently Employed as an Attorney at Maginnis Howard
Always good to see strides in the right direction as the practice of law becomes more diverse every day.
“Real change is slow, hard, and imperceptible, but it does happen,” said National Association of Law Placement Executive Director, Nikia L. Gray. For the first time since 1991, women make up the majority of law firm associates in the United States. Even the percentage of female partners increased 1.1% over the previous year. And not only that, but 2023 reported the largest percentage increase in associates of color, a 1.8% increase over the year prior. While there’s still plenty of work to be done, we can’t help but reiterate that slow progress is still progress!

Many homegrown Atlanta Big Law firms saw their rankings fall among more than 200 firms nationally for creation of more racially and ethnically diverse workforces in 2023, according to The American Lawyer’s annual Diversity Scorecard. Rankings declined for minorities’ share of overall law firm head count and leadership at Alston & Bird; FisherBroyles; Freeman Mathis & Gary; King & Spalding; Morris, Manning & Martin; Smith, Gambrell & Russell; and Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders. A firm from outside the Southeast with a large Atlanta office, Seyfarth Shaw, also dropped in the Scorecard rankings when 2023 was compared to 2022, according to ALM data. But Atlanta-founded Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton rose in the rankings, as did Southeast-rooted firms Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough and Ogletree Deakins, as did firms from outside the Southeast including Baker & Hostetler, Jones Day and Greenberg Traurig. . . . #diversity #communication #humanresources #diversityinlaw #diversityequityinclusion #womeninlaw #leadership #progress #transparency #accountability #lawfirms #atlantalawyer #legalrecruiting #AtlantaLegalRecruiters #theRMNagency #legalrecruitingfirm #legalrecruiter #legalrecruiters #legalsearch #atlantalegalrecruiters #atlantalawfirms #biglaw #smalllawfirm #inhousecounsel #associate #partner
