Mixed species reforestation – planting a diverse array of native tree species – is essential for forest health and ecosystem resilience. Mixed stands of Ponderosa pine, sugar pine, Douglas fir, and more, offer unique benefits that single-species plantations do not. Mixed stands are known to: ➡ Strengthen pest and disease resistance ➡ Improve soil quality ➡ Provide habitat for native species ➡ Reduce management costs once established Shown above: Ponderosa pine (in planting bag) & Douglas fir (planted) seedlings #mastreforestation #forestrestoration #forestresilience
Active management = resilience = sustainability. There’s a place in this world for a wide range of forest systems to help combat climate change. Keep planting!
Diversity = resilience = music to our ears

1wMother nature creates some "monocultures" of her own as well such as redwoods and giant sequoia's, they seem to have done alright (many may have started off as mixed species stands) - as in most things in life, not everything is black or white and we shouldnt be preaching absolutes... and as i always say we should be taking our tree growing advice from industry professionals who's livlihood depend on it, not these groups and certainly not the government...
