This week is an important beginning of idealistic views of who we are as a people. Wednesday is the celebration of the same date in 1865 when the last slaves were freed in Galveston, Texas. The potential idealism that fueled some during that moment as they headed into a new territory of freedom is overwhelming to imagine. Their dreams of freedom went from feeling like a fantasy to a possibility. And in just over two weeks, we will be celebrating the freedom and independence of our country from another power of dominance and oppression. Back then, there were sets of ideals and principles of a free nation that the founding Americans were willing to die for. But there are similarities in both instances. The days we mark as June 19th and July 4th are worth celebrating, but upon reflection, they also generate a reflection of all the action that was required then and is required now. At a team meeting this morning, there was an interesting ice breaker. Would you rather meet your great, great grandparents or your great, great grandchildren. Put into the context of these next two dates of celebration, I am not sure what would be more enlightening; bringing my great, great grandparents to now or my great, great grandchildren. What would they think of where we are, and the progress we have (and haven't made)? While there will be reminders of the divisiveness over the next two weeks, I plan to reflect with my family and three kids on all that has been accomplished. I plan to re-teach the ideals of what can be for all of us when we care about our fellow citizens and believe in the better world ahead of us. Happy Juneteenth Week, everyone.

To father figures around the world, stand tall and proud as the children you raise seek to make this world a better place for their generations. In 1986, my father co authored a study developing a four item structured self report scale. This article reviews the psychometric properties and tests the concurrent and predictive validity of a structured four-item self-reported adherence measure which can be easily integrated into the medical visit. Results showed the scale to demonstrate both concurrent and predictive validity with regard to blood pressure control at 2 years and 5 years, respectively. This tool became known as the Morisky Green Levine or MGL /MAQ and is the most highly cited article in medication adherence in the world, even to this day being used in standard practice in the largest institutions in the world. https://lnkd.in/g8C_ATZR

The Four Personal Freedoms As we celebrate our 248th Independence Day on July 4th,  I want to encourage you to consider your personal freedoms — which you must choose and embrace if you are to be effective and happy. In his book 10X is Easier than 2X, Dan Sullivan makes the important point that you have four freedoms: 1. Freedom of Time by recognizing the value and quality of your time. You have focus/performance time; buffer time for practicing and organizing; and free/rejuvenation time. 2. Freedom of Money by appreciating the value and quality of your true wealth, which is qualitative and subjective. Money alone does not reflect your true wealth. 3. Freedom of Relationship with yourself and others. You have the possibility of forging healthy, valuable, deep and enduring relationships. 4. Freedom of Purpose builds on the first 3 freedoms and requires you to embrace the uniqueness that is you and pursue the purest expression of yourself. It means discovering your purpose for being and having a clear sense of your mission. Defining your purpose in every stage in life is of critical importance! How much freedom have you created for yourself? I hope you have an enjoyable and safe 4th of July!

How most people see it: ✅ Parades and festivities ✅ Family gatherings and BBQs ✅ Fireworks lighting up the night sky ✅ Patriotic displays of red, white, and blue ✅ Celebrating American freedom and history Here’s what July 4th really represents for us: ❌ The ongoing struggle for equality and justice ❌ The responsibility to uphold democratic values ❌ The opportunity to come together as a community ❌ The need to reflect on our nation's progress and challenges ❌ The bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom Let me break this to you: True celebration is acknowledging our past while working for a better future. Freedom is earned. Unity is essential. We grow as a nation when we embrace our history and strive for progress. So if you’re not feeling the celebration today, that’s okay. Patriotism is built through action, not just festivities. Reflection is the foundation. Community and shared values are the fuel. It’s more than just a holiday. Keep pushing for the ideals that July 4th stands for. Like in investing when creating generational wealth & legacy for decades.
