Our mixed-method research study was #justpublished in the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education. Collaborating with my colleague Jacqueline Achon, we explored the use of experiential simulation in higher education. This innovative approach allowed graduate occupational therapy students at University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences to experience the physical challenges of aging, fostering critical empathetic skills and better preparing them for clinical practice and fieldwork. #simulationinhighereducation #mixedmethod #highereducation #empathy #occupationaltherapy

Curious about how often OT's and Speech Pathologists change roles?🧐 Based on LinkedIn reporting, the average tenure in Australia for these positions is as follows: Occupational Therapists: 1.7 years ⏰ Speech Pathologists: 1.3 years! ⏰ ⁉ Are you as surprised by these numbers as I was? What can employers do to extend tenure and avoid their clinicians changing roles? #SpeechPathology #OccupationalTherapy #JobMarket #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment

This advice post is for my fellow therapy assistants—COTAs and PTAs! Last month, I saw a frustrated occupational therapy assistants post in an OT advice group on Facebook, which has over 68,000 members sharing treatment ideas and information. The COTA’s question was: "Serious question….after 25 years I struggle with a 93% productivity requirement. How do you all do this legitimately?" I felt compelled to respond. As a certified occupational therapy assistant with five years of experience in skilled nursing facilities in both Florida and New Jersey, I've worked for contract therapy companies and therapy management firms that strictly enforce productivity requirements of 90% or higher, often reaching 93% or 95%. These productivity requirements are simply unattainable, and to meet these unrealistic metrics, therapists are often forced to hold group sessions and concurrent treatments. Here's what I replied in the picture below! Liza Marie Norton, COTA/L #IndustryInsights
