🌏Today marks this year's Earth Day - Serving as a reminder of the importance of conservation and sustainability. Recently in Queenstown, many tourism operators in the region came together to plant over 2,500 trees 🌳. This event was organised between Love Queenstown Community Fund, Mana Tāhuna Charitable Trust and the Whakatipu Reforestation Trust. (https://shorturl.at/ioMW7) As well as celebrating sustainability initiatives like these, this day is an opportunity to look ahead and make proactive plans for the conservation of our planet. Earth Overshoot Day releases a 'Country Overshoot' every year which indicates the date that the demand for natural resources surpasses what the planet can regenerate in any given year, based on the different resource consumption of each country. For 2024, New Zealand's Overshoot Day was April 11, which is 8 days earlier than last year! Social sustainability speaks to efforts focusing on promoting equitable and inclusive communities that cater to the well-being of all individuals. This principle underscores the importance of providing access to basic needs, education, healthcare, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. The last principle that completes the sustainability web is ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILIT.  This revolves around cultivating a resilient and flourishing economy that serves both the present and future generations. This principle advocates for responsible resource management, sustainable business practices, and the promotion of circular economies. Ideally, the above sustainability building blocks are interconnected and interdependent. Achieving TRUE sustainability therefore requires a holistic approach that addresses the complex interactions between the environment, society, and the economy.
