Where did it all start? What were the (innovation) prizes for? 🤔 At the beginning of the year, a brief look back at the beginnings of DENKweit to encourage new start-ups. 💪 DENKweit was founded as a Frauenhofer spin-off in 2018 by Dr. Dominik Lausch, Kai Kaufmann and Markus Patzold. Their research drive was recognised at the end of 2018 with the "𝗛𝘂𝗴𝗼 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗶𝘀" (category: "Most Innovative Products, Services and Business Models"). This was followed by the "𝗜𝗤 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗲𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟵". And the "𝗞𝗳𝗪 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗚𝗿ü𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻" in 2020: "The company has developed an innovative analysis technology that provides information about the direction and strength of currents in current-carrying components such as solar modules or batteries. The generated data is analysed with the help of machine learning algorithms. The technology is used in photovoltaics in module production and in the testing of free-field systems, in the production and testing of batteries for e-mobility or storage applications and in the crack testing of metals. DENKweit is a technological leader in both the two-dimensional analysis of current distribution and in AI-based image analyses." 🇳🇱 East Netherlands recognized as European Regional Innovation Valley 💚 The European Commission has designated the East Netherlands region as a Regional Innovation Valley under the New European Innovation Agenda. This recognition, announced by European Commissioners Iliana Ivanova (Research and Innovation) and Elisa Ferreira (Regional Policy), is based on the innovation agenda of Think East Netherlands, affirming East Netherlands' position as a key innovation partner. This opens the door to new opportunities for further development and European cooperation. In addition to the strategic collaboration The East of Netherlands has with the German Region Nord Westfalen and executed in the TECH.LAND program. The East Netherlands region is now part of a network of 151 innovative regions in Europe. This network collaborates with the European Commission to strengthen regional innovation ecosystems and create strong value chains. Opportunities for the future Erwin Hoogland, Deputy of the Provincie Overijssel, responded with enthusiasm: "The recognition as a Regional Innovation Valley confirms our innovation strength and entrepreneurship. We are now part of a strong European network, enabling us to work together with the business community to address solutions in areas such as digitization, healthcare, and sustainability." Helga Witjes, Deputy of the Provincie Gelderland, also expressed joy: "A great reward for East Netherlands. It facilitates collaboration and thereby the innovative strength of East Netherlands entrepreneurs. This allows them not only to find solutions for the challenges we face in the Netherlands and Europe but also to provide income and jobs. A win-win situation that is good for everyone in East Netherlands." A step towards a sustainable future The recognition as a Regional Innovation Valley aligns with the broader goals of the New European Innovation Agenda (NEIA). This agenda focuses on enhancing innovation capacity and competitiveness in Europe through collaboration and investment. It supports regions in addressing challenges such as reducing dependency on fossil fuels, improving food security, digitization, and healthcare. The status provides East Netherlands with the opportunity to grow as an innovation valley where talent and businesses can flourish within a strong ecosystem. The regions of Veluwe, Twente and Arnhem-Nijmegen have long been recognized for their thriving ecosystems and are among the recently published top 10 regions with strong entrepreneurship ecosystems according to the EE index. The status as a Regional Innovation Valley lays the foundation for future developments and collaborations, both at the European and global levels, and strengthens Europe's competitiveness compared to other world powers such as the United States and China. Over the past few weeks, we have been posing about our new robotics project that aims to develop a flexible, cooperative, and intelligent multi-robotic solution for arc welding and additive manufacturing, enhancing industrial process efficiency and flexibility. And now we are delighted to announce our joint work with our Consortia partners and present what the COROB Project Open Call has achieved. 59 submitted applications - 30 for 1st Funding Instrument: Solutions to Challenges, and 29 for 2nd Funding Instrument: Experiments for Enabling Technologies for Digital Services. Great number, don’t you think?🏆 We would also like to acknowledge the countries that participated in the programme. The gold medal goes to Spain with an impressive 17 submitted applications – congratulations! Italy takes second place with 8 submitted applications, and Greece secures third place with 7 submissions. 🎉 It's important to note that in this Call, we were seeking technology providers from SMEs and startups. We received applications from 39 SMEs, 19 startups, and 1 other type of company.
