🏆 Nr. #1 of the most read ISPT articles in 2023: the publication of the public report of the Next Level Solid Oxide Electrolysis project
The Next Level Solid Oxide Electrolysis feasibility study has explored the potential of Solid Oxide Electrolysis (SOEC) technology in the chemical and fuel industries, for example for large-scale green hydrogen production. This project aims to scale up the use of SOEC and assess its viability as a solution for the production of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and syngas by electrolysis. In this way, the industry can contribute to the goal of achieving a CO2-neutral Europe by 2050.

In May 2023, we released the public report of our Next Level Solid Oxide Electrolysis project. This project has shown that Solid Oxide Electrolysis cells (SOEC) technology has great upscaling potential for the chemical and fuels industry. It could for example be used for large-scale green hydrogen production for ammonia synthesis, CO2 reduction to CO for fine chemicals and syngas production for e-fuels.
In this Next Level SOE project, ISPT and VoltaChem (Powered by TNO) have performed a feasibility study with partners Air Liquide, bp and OCI Global. The process and heat integration, the upscaling potential and the technical-economical aspects of brown-field applications of SOEC technology have been evaluated in three different industrial use cases.
