In Moms Across America testing, Burger King’s Quarter Pounder contained concerning levels of Monensin, which is not approved for human consumption and can be lethal to horses. Burger King’s Impossible brand burger also had nearly twice the levels of glyphosate as meat counterparts. Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world and it is a carcinogen (cancer-causing) anti-nutrient (one that binds to essential vitamins and minerals). Pseudomonas: This bacteria can grow in canned meats if they have been improperly processed or stored, leading to spoilage and off-putting odors. Acid-tolerant bacteria: Certain bacteria, such as some strains of Bacillus and Lactobacillus, can survive in acidic environments and may cause spoilage in canned meats if the pH levels are not properly controlled during processing.
