Hill torrents, while posing immediate risks, hold immense potential for positive transformation in a climate-changing world. By embracing innovative and community-driven approaches to floodwater conservation, we can turn these torrents into opportunities for enhancing water security, boosting livelihoods, and securing a sustainable future for downstream communities. This aligns with the broader goals of climate change adaptation and resilience building.

💥 Take Action! 💥 There’s a serious threat to funding for natural resources and climate resilience as the Legislature and Administration try to reach an agreement on the 24-25 budget by June 15. We need your help! Learn more and take action: https://lnkd.in/gXgdR3mG CA's final budget agreement would cut at least $1.3 Billion in natural resource and climate resilience funding. The proposal cuts over $484 million from watershed climate resilience programs - including most reductions targeting the Cascade and High Sierra Upper Watershed Climate Resilience Program. These investments are critical for powering forest health in the Sierra and will set back years of work in building wildfire and water resilience in the Sierra landscapes 🏔️ Cutting or delaying spending on programs that help California adapt to climate change will exacerbate natural disasters. Extreme climate events such as wildfires severely impacting Sierra Nevada communities, local economies, and our beloved habitats will not wait. #SierraNevadaAlliance #SierraNevada #SavetheSierra #Sierra #Conservation #Stewardship #Community #Environment #Activism #ClimateAction #ClimateJustice #ClimateChange #30x30CA #ClimateBondNow #ProtectCalifornia #PowerInNature

🇱🇨 As 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝟰𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 this February 22, 2024, it is also a time to celebrate its strides in building climate resilience. #saintlucia 🇱🇨 Acting against climate change remains a top priority for the country, as it continues to attract multiple sources of climate funds that help implement innovative and sustainable solutions to build a better future for generations to come. For example, the government is currently benefiting from a 625,000 Euros investment to build resilience in the water sector through funding from the EU-GCCA+ Project, being implemented by the CCCCC. The theme of its independence, Douvan Ansam – (which translates to ‘Forward Together’ in English) is a testament to a nation that is constantly on the rebound from climate-related disasters such as storms, hurricanes, landslides, flooding, drought, sea-level rise, beach erosion, forest-depletion and more. Without a doubt, taking prompt action on climate change in Saint Lucia is crucial to prevent the country from enduring millions of dollars in economic damage. Please join us in applauding the country’s effort to reduce climate change impacts on all its sectors as it observes its independence.👏 #CARICOMClimate #CaribbeanClimate #ClimateChange #BuildingResilient #FutureSecured

Nature-based solutions, such as protecting our planet’s blue carbon habitats, are a critical strategy in tackling the climate crisis. 🌎🌊 These powerhouse ecosystems—namely mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrass beds—both store carbon and help communities adapt to climate impacts. When these environments flourish, carbon is collected, fish stocks and food security levels are increased, marine wildlife thrives, and coastlines help protect coastal communities and support livelihoods. Learn more about blue carbon ecosystems—and how WildAid works to protect them—here: https://lnkd.in/g7CMcbZr

"Water for peace" Water can create peace or spark conflict. When water is scarce or polluted, or when people have unequal, or no access, tensions can rise between communities and countries. More than 3 billion people worldwide depend on water that crosses national borders. Yet, only 24 countries have cooperation agreements for all their shared water. As climate change impacts increase, and populations grow, there is an urgent need, within and between countries, to unite around protecting and conserving our most precious resource.

1wI would very much like to see MFAT organise an architectural design competition for practical cyclone proof housing concepts for the Pacific and then develop programmes for the best designs to be constructed. It is heartbreaking to see timber and corrugated iron structures being repeatedly demolished as each cyclone occurs. I was in Vanuatu during Cyclone Pam and have seen first hand how inadequate most family homes are to withstand a category 5 event.
