🏕️ Council Future-Proofs Gogeldrie Riverside Park 🏕️ The Gogeldrie Weir campground has recently undergone significant improvements with remediation works undertaken in the transpiration bed to ensure that the site’s effluent system is being effectively managed. The upgrades were undertaken due to the previous system being unable to sustainably manage the current loading and ensured the required Section 68 approval for the ongoing operation of the site. Have you ever worked on a project in a SMAF area and met the stormwater regulations required, but not known why those regulations are in place? 🤔 The Auckland Unitary Plan introduced stormwater regulations in the Auckland region including detention and retention/reuse flow controls for sites located in SMAF areas. These areas have been identified due to the drains deemed as sensitive to changes in stormwater flows, have high natural values, and are at potential risk from an increase in the impervious area associated with future development. 🌳 The increase of impervious surfaces from the growing rate of housing developments increases the flow rate and volume of stormwater runoff. Unless this increased stormwater runoff is managed, there would be numerous negative effects on the surrounding environment. Vital Water Transmission Project Underway for Upstate New York! In a significant development for the Hoosick Falls community, construction has commenced on a pivotal water infrastructure project aimed at addressing perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) contamination. Governor Kathy Hochul's recent announcement heralds the beginning of construction on a permanent water transmission line, representing a crucial step towards securing a safe water supply for local residents. This project, part of a 2023 agreement between the state of New York and companies Saint-Gobain and Honeywell, involves laying approximately 6,800 linear feet of raw water transmission line. State agencies DEC and DOH will oversee the construction process, with activities slated to begin in May 2024. The initiative underscores ongoing efforts to remediate contamination issues stemming from historical industrial activities in the area. This infrastructure project is expected to significantly contribute to safeguarding the health and well-being of Hoosick Falls residents.
