Last week our Disability Team were with students from Warrington Vale Royal to deliver some sessions on disability sport and awareness. The students had the opportunity to take part in various activities such as wheelchair rugby, boccia and then going through different real world scenarios to see how the students would tailor the sport to fit the individuals needs. Partnerships like this are vital to the continued support for the disability community, educating the next generation of coaches so everyone can experience the sports we love. #bethechange #wheelchairrugby #rugby #rugbyleague #disability #disabilityawareness #disabilitysupport #disabilitysport #charity #supportlocal #communityfundraising #communityfirst #communitywork #communitywellness #communitysupport #warrington #northwest #warringtonwolvesfoundation #warringtonwolves #wiredna #changinglives #changinglivesthroughsport

Project Delivery Lead -British Dressage. Mental Health First Aider. Interim RDA National Training Centre Manager - Equine & Competitions at Riding for the Disabled Association
It’s been super working with the Hidden Disabilities charity to help our wider workforce become more confident when dealing with members who have a non-visible disability. Once you learn about HD & the Sunflower you start to see it everywhere, supermarkets, airports, sports grounds & now you will start to see it at BD competitions too. Sunflower armbands or lapel badges can be worn by competitors to show they have a hidden disability & may need a bit more time and understanding. Just another fabulous step towards being more inclusive in our sport. https://lnkd.in/eyMBWBpq

✨SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ✨ I am so proud to announce that I will be a part of the official 2024 ROMP @rompglobal Climb Team for the 10th annual Climbing for ROMP campaign. This September, I will be heading to Ecuador with an amazing and diverse team of adaptive and non-adaptive athletes, industry leaders, and disability rights advocates with one mission: provide high-quality prosthetic care to those without access. To commemorate the significance of the 10th Annual Climbing for ROMP, @rompglobal has an ambitious goal: THREE teams climbing the THREE highest mountains in Ecuador (Chimborazo 20,549 ft, Cotopaxi 19,347 ft, and Cayambe 18,996 ft) and we are inviting thousands of people to join us in solidarity worldwide. Over the next five months, I will be training in preparation to attempt to summit one of these three mountains and personally fundraise $10,000 to fund high-quality prosthetics for those who need them most. Stay tuned for more details next month on which mountain team I will be joining. 100% donations will directly fund 250 prosthetics for those who need it most and will create the foundation for ROMP to expand their work to a third country in 2026! Many of you know I will be climbing in memory of the Legend, my little brother Rocky Shorey (2021 Elite Cotopaxi Team). For those of you who knew or heard of Rocky I do not need to say anything and I know you are with us and the cause. That in itself is a triumph. Honestly, from where I am standing, I do not know if I can do it. But I am going to do my darndest. Just like he did. Just like he wanted everyone to do regardless of circumstance. I cannot tell you how much your support means to his legacy and the people he worked for. 🫶🏽 Because in the end, all anyone will have is what we’ve left behind. How do we empower each other and maximize our potential and the potential of those around us? I would be honored to have your support (link in bio) and follow along our journey with @rompglobal! #whatsyourmountain #rompglobal #mobilityforall #C4R10 #SHOREthang #SHOREstyle

There's another Independence Day that we celebrate: July 26th. Thirty-four years ago, a second Independence Day was established on July 26. National Disability Independence Day celebrates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which expands the rights and prohibits discrimination of the disabled community. Even with the passing of the ADA, many people with disabilities still experience tremendous barriers to employment. Enter Goodwill. At Goodwill of Greater Washington, more than 250 team members have a disability. They are provided competitive wages, access to health and retirement benefits, a Caring Fund to address emergency needs, as well as RISE Coaches to help them navigate resources and systems to remove barriers to achieving success at work and beyond! In honor of National Disability Independence Day, please support Goodwill’s life-changing programs by making a one-time or recurring donation. This will give more neighbors with disabilities the freedom and independence to improve their lives. 30 days to raise the remaining $700 of the $2500 for people with disabilities through the Ability Experience Empire State Ride. I got a nice article in the paper today to help. A special thank you to all my sponsors this year. Pedal power NORTHFIELD — Covering 200 miles in three days on a bike might sound daunting to some, but it sounds like last year to Illari “Lar” Vihinen. Vihinen, whose day job is teaching mechanical engineering at Norwich University, completed the first-ever Empire State Ride — a Journey of Hope route that runs between New York City and Albany, New York, last year while raising $2,600 for The Ability Experience, a nonprofit charity that raises money and awareness for people with disabilities. Now, Vihinen is readying to make the same three-day trek in late September and is within $700 of his $2,500 fundraising goal. Vihinen, who knows how adaptive equipment can help people, like his father, who had ALS, and a family friend who has a severe case of cerebral palsy, is a big believer in The Ability Experience (AbEx) and Journey of Hope. How big? So big that 30 years ago, Vihinen completed a cross-country Journey of Hope bike ride that made the one he’s now preparing for seem like a ride around the block. It’s one that spanned 62 days, covered 3,530 miles in 80-mile chunks, started in San Francisco and ended in Washington, D.C. Vihinen raised $5,600 for AbEx during that 1994 ride and remains committed to the cause, even if pedaling from coast to coast isn’t easily squeezed into a schedule that involves teaching students at Norwich and conducting energy audits for Efficiency Vermont on the side. However, three days and 200 miles is something Vihinen can do, did last year, and plans to do again — though he’s hoping to avoid the epic rainstorms that dogged last year’s trek. For the moment, Vihinen is firmly in fundraising mode and has been spreading the word about The Ability Experience and Journey of Hope in an effort to drum up donations. Perhaps we can help, by letting you know how to help an organization, which improves access to facilities by building handicapped-accessible entrance ramps, boardwalks pavilions and playgrounds, and improves awareness of people’s abilities rather than their disabilities. If that cause hits close to home, as it does with Vihinen (and even if it doesn’t), online donations can be made by visiting: https://lnkd.in/en6ks8UH and will be credited toward Vihinen’s $2,500 fundraising target.

🏀 🏅 With the Paralympics taking place next month, the topic of disability is at the forefront of many people’s minds, yet sufficient funding still seems to be lacking. Thank you Maximilian Martin, Ph.D. for speaking with me about how Lombard Odier is taking action to address the funding gap within disability philanthropy. At Pace2Life NGO, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to move and experience the world to the fullest. That's why we're dedicated to providing wheelchairs to people with disabilities who need them most. This week, we had the incredible opportunity to distribute wheelchairs to individuals in our community. Seeing the joy on their faces as they took their first independent steps was truly heartwarming. For many of these individuals, a wheelchair means more than just mobility. It means independence, dignity, and the ability to participate in everyday activities that many of us take for granted. One recipient, shared that her new wheelchair will allow her to finally visit her grandchildren without relying on others. Another, told us he can now access his local market and run errands himself, something he hasn't been able to do in years. These are just a few of the countless stories that make our work at Pace2Life so meaningful. We're grateful to our dedicated volunteers and generous donors who make it possible for us to bring hope and mobility to those in need. How You Can Help: There are many ways you can support Pace2Life NGO in our mission to empower people with disabilities: Donate: Every contribution, big or small, helps us purchase wheelchairs and provide other essential equipment. Volunteer: Share your time and skills to help us with fundraising, organizing events, or assisting with wheelchair distributions. Spread the word: Raise awareness about our work and the challenges faced by people with disabilities in your community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities. Let's create a world where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. #Pace2Life #MobilityForAll #WheelchairDonations #MakeADifference
