Interested in face-to-face business opportunities? | The Business Show, Going Global Live and The International Franchise Show - Business Development Director
I always find data like this, looking at regional variance, really fascinating - New research from Ciphr has revealed which towns and cities in the UK have the best job opportunities for the people living and working within them: Winchester came in first place, ahead of Warrington in second, and St Albans in third. Chelmsford, Sevenoaks, Preston, Cheltenham, Guildford, Aberdeen, and Reading also made the top 10. Towns and cities were rated (out of 100) across multiple factors, such as average full-time earnings, recent pay growth, the latest unemployment figures, employment rate growth, the number of job listings per local worker and business density. Housing costs, as well as life satisfaction and happiness scores, were also considered to reflect the town or city’s affordability and its residents’ general level of wellbeing. I'm really glad that last part, about housing and living costs, is considered - everything else is important but almost irrelevant if people can't afford to live where the jobs are. Or equally, should that be as much of a consideration these days? What are your thoughts? #UKCareers #SMEs #CareerGrowth #UKBusiness #Innovation

Following last month’s announcement of an unprecedented joint venture to create job and economic opportunities for Camden residents as part of Cooper’s $3 billion expansion, George E. Norcross III, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cooper University Health Care, announced that Cooper has begun an outreach program to Camden residents to sign up for job training opportunities. "When Camden’s renaissance began just over a decade ago, it was clear there were three things that needed to be done for the city’s future: dramatically improve public safety, expand access to high-quality education options and create economic opportunity for city’s residents,” said Norcross. “Programs like this unprecedented partnership with the Carpenters, as well as Camden Works, which disseminates a weekly listing of all job openings for every public and private city employer, are an important part of ensuring that Camden once again becomes a place where people not only want to live, but where they can start a well-paying career.” Click here to read more: https://ow.ly/tIZk50TMxhm

🌟 Discover first hand what the Job Start scheme holds with insights from our JP Corry team members, Hannah and Marcus! Dive into the video below for an inside look and uncover the opportunities awaiting you. #JPCorry #JobStart #OpportunityAwaits #CareerGrowth
It was great to see over 550 young people visit 2 Royal Avenue yesterday for our JobStart Meet the Employer event, where they had the chance to meet over 30 employers with JobStart opportunities in a wide range of roles. Thanks to a partnership between ourselves and Department for Communities, the free event, attended by our Lord Mayor and the Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons, also provided useful information on our Employment Academies, self-employment, the Gateway to Choices (G2C) service and the Condition Management Programme. It was all about helping young people in Belfast who are at risk of long-term unemployment or struggling to get a job - a key priority in our Belfast Agenda – and part of our employability and skills programme, #TakeTheNextStep. The diverse roles on offer spanned administration, childcare, customer service, distribution, health and social care, hospitality, logistics, marketing, sports coaching, transport, videography, youth work and warehousing. Watch this short video with Hannah Quirey, HR Advisor, JP Corry and Marcus Harvey, a JobStart graduate employed by JP Corry, to see what they thought. 🚨 **URGENT CALL FOR ACTION IN TOWN PLANNING INDUSTRY** 🚨 Dear LinkedIn community, I hope this post finds you well. Today, I want to shed light on a matter that is silently eroding the foundation of our esteemed profession - the exploitation of Town Planning Interns in terms of remuneration and salaries. It's disheartening to witness the struggles faced by young professionals who have invested four years of their lives in studying Town Planning, only to find themselves receiving meager compensation averaging between R4,000 - R5,000. This is not just a financial concern; it's a threat to the future of our planning profession. Despite the rising cost of living in South Africa, the relevant professional bodies like SACPLAN, SAPI, and CBE (Council of Built Environments) seem to turn a blind eye to the plight of these interns. None of them are taking proactive measures to standardize salaries to reasonable levels, leaving our graduates vulnerable to exploitation. Imagine trying to cover living expenses, transportation, and professional growth with a monthly income that falls significantly short. It's disheartening to hear that some interns are contemplating leaving the field altogether, opting for jobs in completely unrelated industries just to make ends meet. This situation is not just about salaries; it's about the value we place on the future of Town Planning and the young minds entering this field. A restaurant worker with basic matric qualifications earning more than a Town Planning Intern is a stark indication of the skewed priorities within our industry. I urge the senior planners, mentors, and industry leaders to take a stand. We have a duty to protect the future of these young graduates and the integrity of our profession. Let's not forget the human side of our roles. Compassion, understanding, and fairness should be the guiding principles in shaping the future of Town Planning. If we do not address these issues promptly, we risk creating a generation of passive resistance and diminished regard for our noble profession. It's time for collective action, advocacy, and dialogue. Let's work together to standardize remuneration and foster an environment that encourages the growth and sustainability of Town Planning. Share your thoughts, experiences, and solutions in the comments. Let's ignite the conversation and bring about positive change for the future of our profession. #TownPlanning #ProfessionalEthics #AdvocacyForChange #FairCompensation #PlanningProfession #CallForAction

📚 A new report outlines how South Cambridgeshire District Council’s four-day week trial has seen £434,000 less spent on agency staff covering hard to fill roles. This has been achieved by filling 10 permanent roles that the Council previously struggled to recruit to - particularly in the Planning Service, where the private sector pays more. This has led to the reduction in spending because directly employing staff in permanent roles is much more cost effective than hiring agency staff that the Council was relying on. The four-day week trial for desk-based staff began in January 2023, to help attract and keep talented colleagues in an incredibly competitive local employment market. This includes staff at Greater Cambridge Shared Planning, a service shared with Cambridge City Council. A trial for crews at Greater Cambridge Shared Waste, another service shared with Cambridge City Council, commenced in mid-September 2023.
