On the flip side, feeling โhangryโ โ the phenomenon where hunger manifests in the form of anger or irritability โ illustrates how what we eat, or donโt eat, can also provoke negative emotions. The latest research suggests that blood sugar fluctuations are partly responsible for the connection between what we eat and how we feel. SEPTEMBER 1, 2024: DID YOU KNOW THAT WHAT YOU EAT AFFECTS HOW YOU FEEL? "The latest research suggests that blood sugar fluctuations are partly responsible for the connection between what we eat and how we feel. Through its effects on our hormones and our nervous system, blood sugar levels can be fuel for anxiety and depression." **LESSONS: (1) As the old adage goes: "You are what you eat" - and your food can also impact your mental health. (2) Eat more low glycemic index foods like whole grains and legumes for a more stable blood sugar level, leading to lower risks of mood disorders. (3) In contrast, eat less high glycemic index foods like white rice and bread as they are linked to depression and anxiety. (4) Healthful eating is important to both physical and mental health. #Food #EatingHabits #HealthyEating #MentalWellness #MentalHealth #MentalWellbeing #MentalToughness #MentalWellnessResearch #CertifiedMentalWellnessCoachAndFacilitator #CMWCF Ref: https://lnkd.in/gyB3zC55

Why are we seeing such huge rises in mental health issues? 1 in 2 people now have a diagnosed mental health condition. When you add on all the undiagnosed issues out there it looks even worse. Whatโs the cause of this incredible rise over the last 60/70 years? Our lifestyle has an effect of course, we are living in constant stress, avoiding the sun, poor sleep routines and living an unnatural existence for humans But what about our food? Over the last 60/70 years we have also seen a huge move towards processed unnatural foods and away from natural whole foods. Could it be that what we eat is having an effect on our mental health? The answer is YES! What we eat matters A LOT! Our brain cannot function without the proper fuel. Just like a car, with the wrong fuel the performance is massively affected. The move away from animal fats and towards seed/vegetable oils has coincided with this rise in mental health. If you want to improve your mental health, start with your diet. And start by swapping your fat source. To learn more about improving your mental health through nutrition join my FREE Community. You are what you eat The foods you eat do more than fill your belly โ they also give your body the nutrients it needs to thrive. What you eat can affect how you feel today as well as how you feel years from now. Some foods can deplete your energy, impair your digestive system, and raise your risk of health problems. Other foods fuel your bodyโs natural disease-fighting abilities. Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships and shape the world we live in. Mental health is a basic human right. And it is crucial to personal, community and socio-economic development. Today, it is crucial to comprehend the significance of vitamin B complex for mental health since it can improve mood, reduce stress, improve cognitive performance and support brain health These vitamins are essential for mental health, and deficiency can result in symptoms including sadness, anxiety and cognitive decline. Sugar cravings can be caused by a variety of factors, including fluctuations in blood sugar levels, hormonal changes, stress, lack of sleep, and psychological factors such as emotional eating or habituation. Additionally, consuming sugary foods can trigger the release of feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin, which can reinforce the craving cycle. For individuals with mental health issues, sugar cravings can sometimes be linked to mood fluctuations or attempts to self-medicate. Conditions like depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder can influence neurotransmitter levels, leading to cravings for foods that temporarily boost mood or provide comfort. Those individuals need to address both their mental health condition and any associated patterns of disordered eating or cravings with the help of healthcare professionals. For example, alcohol and class A bind perfectly with carbohydrates disrupting our perception of sugar, giving us a sense of energy and relief for a very short time and leading to or increasing Mental Health, Eating Disorders and other lifestyle-related conditions. #mentalhealth #dietetics #lifestyle
