SAFETY AND DIGNITY FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS ActionAid India promotes women’s collectives that provide economic, social and political independence to women. Questions around women’s work, wages, gender division of labour and unpaid work occupy our strategic thinking and interventions. We build awareness about sexual health and reproductive health issues among adolescents and young women and we have also initiated steps to include men and boys in all our interventions to further women’s rights. https://lnkd.in/gSP-DaTS ActionAid India’s recent achievements: 1.More than 30,000 women are now part of collectives we support. 2. 11,000 girls were trained on sexual health rights . 3. 9,000 women were provided skills training – including craft making, weaving, zardozi work and driving. 4. 700 women survivors of violence received our support from various resource centres linked to ActionAid. 5. India’s first One-Stop Crisis Centre was up by MP government in collaboration with ActionAid and similar tie-ups are happening in other states as well. A similar initiative called Asha Jyoti Kendra is now underway in Uttar Pradesh. #Onestopcrisis #genderequality ActionAid Association

The model of primary care providers built by Swasthya Swaraj (https://lnkd.in/gCjjzxT4), a non-profit working with tribal communities in Odisha, comes closest in my mind to the ideal that we need nationally. 1. Locally recruited workers who are willing to continue to live and serve in areas where they are from 2. Formally certified by a recognised educational institution to signal competence and prepare them for career progression and higher incomes. 3. Strongly supported by an advanced healthcare system at the backend. 4. Tasked with keeping their communities well on a door-to-door basis and not just providing episodic treatment sitting in a clinic. 5. Equipped with relevant technologies. I feel that this truly represents the Gandhian ideal of "Swaraj" (self-rule) as "Swaavalamban" (self-reliance) in a modern, systemic, integrated way and not in an atavistic, isolationist sense. When will we stop being violated against? When will policy makers design policies that are women and girls centered? - Before girls are born, they are hated, they are aborted. They are reminded that their full existence is not theirs and they mean nothing. - Girls are married off and denied the right to education. They are murdered by their family members because they are perceived to have brought them shame. #honorkilling - Girls are mutilated and their human rights, agency and autonomy violated. - Girls are denied the right to education and human dignity. - Girls are suffering from #periodpoverty because they do not have access to #Menstraul products and care. - Girls are denied access to sexual and reproductive health right. And the list is endless, if we look at the physical, emotional, mental and psychological impact of #violence on #women and #girls worldwide, we can’t ignore them or sweep them under the carpet. Highlighting the harm and injustice we face in a patriarchal society, and doing all we can to break the system is hardwork on it own. It can be exhausting, trying, painful and frustrating. But to everyone doing an amazing job, fighting the #bias, challenging #stereotypes & #genderinequality. You are doing an incredible job. One woman at a time, One girl at a time. There is no limit to what women and girls can accomplish if they have access to quality education and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is crucial for empowering women and girls, enabling them to achieve their full potential and here is why; 1.Educated women are more likely to participate in the workforce, earn higher incomes, and contribute to economic growth. 2.SRHR access reduces maternal and infant mortality rates, prevents sexually transmitted infections, and ensures better health outcomes for women and their families and keeps girls in school until they're mature enough and have completed studies 3.Education and SRHR are fundamental in challenging and changing gender norms, leading to more equal societies. 4. Educated women are more likely to educate their own children, enabling a cycle of education and development. 5.Women with education are more likely to participate in political processes, leading to more representative and effective governance. Earlier this month, I got the opportunity to be a speaker in the panel discussion of 'Reforming advocacy strategies ' in the Purple think tank organised by National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People in International Purple Fest, Goa. In the panel, I was accompanied by Abhishek Kumar (The Sangyan ), Kavya Poornima Balajepalli , Sumeet Parikshit, Kanchan Pamnani,Poonam Natarajan, and was moderated by Akshay Jain. I highlighted a few points of action while talking about the grassroot realities of disability advocacy in third tier cities and gram panchayats: 1.There is a need to strengthen disability advocacy by focussing on data driven advocacy and democratisation of the DPO (Disabled people organisation) at the district and panchayat level which requires increasing the budgets in capacity building of the leaders working in grassroots and also creation of incentive structure to penetrate and sustain implementation of RPWD Act, 2016. 2. Need for broader and stronger alliances with other marginalized groups such as, SCs and STs, women, old age people, which would also strengthen political participation of Persons with Disabilities in grassroot politics and representation. 3. Need a change of narrative how persons with disabilities are portrayed and represented in local media and stronger integration of advocacy in media. Today a 2 days state level consultation on State Policy for Empowerment of Women and Girls has begun in Madhya pradesh which is a joint approach of Dept of Women & Child and UNFPA. It aims to come up with a 10 years strategic policy document which will benefit almost 5 crore women in state. When we talk about women and child the first thing which we cannot ignore is GBV. Violence against women is tantamount to a mix of discrimination and torture that hurts women physically, psychologically, sexually and economically. It is one of the pervasive forms of humanrights violation that denies equality, security, dignity, self-worth to women and these are in contradiction to the rights enshrined in our Constitution. Today I was part of the group which focuses on discussion on GBV and discrimination. Fortunately I was lucky be part of some of extremely experienced people from varios departments like Home, WCD, SRLM and civil societies like Helpage India, TRI, Pradan, and more. Though with limit time we tried to touch upon various factors and existing schemes run by Gov of MP on women. Sharing you a summary of same. This policy discussion aims to provide a strategic approach to addressing GBV in Madhya Pradesh through the health sector, emphasizing the importance of integrating services, community engagement, legal enforcement, and support systems.

NEET-2024 MESS WE, the people of India, are very lusty and greedy and want to scratch everything from government. Considering this behaviour our politicians are keep promising us everything which they can not give. For example to credit ₹ 8500 PM in saving accounts of every woman, giving reservation up to 75%. This reservation is a cause of every political and social unrest. Knowing fully about critical problem every party keep promising to every sector that they will give reservation to that caste of course keeping eye on votes of that community. The root cause of mess of NEET2024 is also reservation. 55% seats are reserved for backward class. Again there is reservation to female, sport, ex service men, disables, orphan and now crossgender. By considering huge mass copying in 12th standard examinations in every village and town of India the NEET was introduced. In neet reserved class occupies more than 60% seats in addition to seats got on merit. This lead frustration amongst the open class. Candidate scored 92% marks don’t get admission and who scored 70-80% gets admission. Then such candidates fall prey of racketeers and NEET2024’ mess is example. I have evidence. In PG NEET some seats are reserved for doctors working in government. this quota getting occupied by 100% backward doctors.Though very difficult but it is not impossible to review the reservation policy by calling conference of all political parties and arrive at the decision that nobody will promise for reservation on and above present one. Latest news: decision of 65 % reservation of Bihar Government set aside.
