So cool to be one of the faces in the mosaic below! 😍 I stood for office in the Co-op National Members Council (NMC) this time last year. I didn't know if I stood a chance. But I knew that something was different about the #cooperative business model, and that I wanted to tap into its energy and capacity to serve people in an unconventional 21st century way: ✅ No pressure at the queues, enough time to chat. ✅ Many ethical outcomes in many different ways, in many communities. ✅ Staff who told me their managers proactively supported them if they needed time off for mental health. The list goes on. And I could not have imagined that on this journey I would get the chance to experience #Coop from the inside, building connections with brilliant, passionate minds including Kenyatte Nelson, Rebecca Birkbeck, Denise Scott-Mcdonald, Debbie Williams CMgr MCMI, Sam Webster, Dominic Kendal-Ward, Louise Walker, Rachel Izzard, Cllr Laura Manston, Melanie Hearn, Jessica Clarke, Rachel Halter, Pete Westall, Juliet Mulholland, Heather Scharnhorst, Kate Allum, the absolutely phenomenal Shirine Khoury-Haq and many others! ✨ Experiencing the health of a democratic process — in a commercially competitive setting — has inspired and energised me in ways that go beyond my role with the Co-op National Members Council. One positive experience was serving as a moderator for Co-op's Join-In Live, ensuring many diverse voices are heard and elevated. I've applied takeaways from this to my role as membership leader for E-FWD, championing small-group forums that link different elements of the policy and energy landscape via constructive, outcome-based discussions. I reach out to other parts of the cooperative movement to learn more and connect widely, because I truly believe that cooperative frameworks are essential for local economies and global stability. 🌎 So then, here's your call to action: if you've ever wanted to get more involved with the Co-op, or would like to sharpen your understanding of the retail landscape in the current economic climate, or to deepen your knowledge of the cooperative movement and cooperative business models, please do apply! (See the Co-op's post below for info.) Whatever it is that describes you — student, stay-at-home parent, retired pensioner, on-the-go professional, etc. — trust me when I say: you do stand a chance. The Co-op needs you. 👊
At Co-op, we’re owned by our members and exist to meet their needs. To help us achieve this, we have a 100-strong National Members' Council, and it's looking for new voices to represent our growing and diversifying membership. Could you be one of them?
