Although Mindstrong Guardians programs are designed to intervene well before a veteran or first responder considers suicide, it is worth pointing out that peer support is an effective way, along with clinical therapy, to reduce suicides in the veteran and first responder community. "Community‐based veteran peer efforts are a promising public health approach to preventing veteran suicide. Provided veteran peers are supported and fully allowed to contribute, these efforts can complement existing clinic‐based efforts." A shout out to Blue Star Families and all the altruistic organizations doing their best to create evidence based and accessible programs designed to ELMINATE veteran suicide! #mentalhealth #peersupport #veterans #leadership #personaldevelopment #veteransuicide #suicideprevention #firstresponders #veteranaffairs Jeffrey Chin Blue Star Families Even Health U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs U.S. Coast Guard Craig Newmark https://lnkd.in/ejCKcs6q

#SafeLanguage matters. September is #Suicideprevention month. I have seen many posts, even be credible organizations, not using safe language. Please use "Died by Suicide" NOT "Committed Suicide". #survivor #socialworkers #caregivers #veterans #languagematters Here is a great link to assist: https://lnkd.in/gMH4PGen

Do you have 988 press 1 in your phone? Here is a new #VA video about #SuicidePrevention for #Veterans to watch and share.
Everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide, and there is hope. This September, throughout Suicide Prevention Month, Nineline Veteran Services is reaching out to Veterans and loved ones of Veterans to offer resources for those who are struggling. In addition to local efforts, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Ad Council have launched new public service advertisements (PSAs) for their national campaign: “Don’t Wait. Reach Out.” The initiative, which started in 2021, urges Veterans struggling to talk with friends and family to visit VA.gov/REACH, a comprehensive website that helps them access the many resources available. Suicide Prevention is everyone's job, and like our dear friend and partner Dr. Matthew Miller, PHD, MPH, we are here to help! #DontWaitReachOut because you're not alone, and you are worth it. #NineLineVS #USDepartmentofVeteranAffairs #SuicidePreventionMonth #SSGFOXSPGP #Savinglivesstartswithyou

FREE EMERGENCY SUICIDE PREVENTION CARE FOR VETERANS In the first year of this federal program, nearly 50,000 veterans took advantage of free emergency suicide prevention care. Yet many still don't know this benefit exists. Even veterans who are not enrolled in the VA, can now go to any VA or non-VA emergency room for free emergent suicidal care or care related to sexual trauma experienced while in uniform. Transportation costs are also covered. Please share this article with your networks and help get the word out to all our veterans so they aware of this benefit. While we wish it wasn't needed, this benefit may very well save lives. To read the article: https://lnkd.in/g7aAJBCU #suicideprevention #veterans

UPDATE: NEARLY 50,000 VETERANS GOT FREE SUICIDAL CRISIS CARE SINCE VA COVERED ALL VETS One year ago, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that almost all Veterans qualify for free suicidal crisis care if they need it— either in VA or paid for in community facilities— regardless of whether they are enrolled in, or qualify for, VA health care. Now, almost 50,000 Veterans have received this life-saving care and have benefited from this new policy. This is all part of our mandate to serve ALL VETS in the mission of suicide prevention. Nothing is more important. https://lnkd.in/d4sHtdv2

The consequences of mold exposure can be severe, affecting both civilians and veterans alike. It can disrupt and disable your life, and in extreme cases, even lead to suicide. Recently. Two of our EBHC research partners were on Capitol Hill to meet with Senate staffers and had the opportunity to be interviewed. What they said is something everyone needs to understand about mold-related illness. EBHC is partnering in this research with Dr. Heyman and Dr. Ross.
