I was asked to consider my sales leadership philosophy recently. It was a great opportunity to document what I think is important and I relished pulling my thoughts together. The starting point for me was to insist it has to be a CUSTOMER CENTRIC approach. Fostering strategic relationships and developing a network is so important. Trust and credibility helps you access the right teams and people. Your personal credibility is critical and with that in mind, doing your homework - understanding your customer, your own solutions and capabilities, market conditions impacting your clients - is essential. I touched on opportunities to standardise various processes, the importance of sales culture and how I would foster a high performance team within a supportive environment. (If you haven’t read any of Mike Weinberg’s work I encourage you to do so). It was a fantastic opportunity to document what I believe is important. I certainly didn’t need any encouragement to review a number of approaches. One, which I appreciate has become increasingly popular in business / market intelligence and SaaS sales, is #meddicc, or in one of its better known evolved forms, #meddpicc. If anyone isn’t familar with it, this offers a flexible framework which prompts a sales professional to consider how they can most effectively help their customer. M - Metrics E - Economic buyer D - Decision criteria D - Decision process P - Paper process I - Identify pain C - Champion C - Competition A free preview offered by author Andy Whyte notes that some organisations have added to these important considerations.
