There is a list a mile long of technology assisted work in the modern world which I take for granted. But every Wisconsin winter I am reminded and amazed by the now common act of snowplowing. Big trucks (not uncomplicated pieces of machinery) operated by people who will often work for a day straight which make it possible for me to continue my day as normal, and in less than 24 hours forget the storm even happened. Thank you to all of the snow plow drivers, the truck manufacturers, mechanics and every other person and piece of the puzzle which makes that happen. How about you? Taivo Varik from Scania Group said it is difficult to understand what GreenDice is doing and wants to do. But sustainability topics are important for Scania Group. This is why these 3 gentlemen are in this photo as well. We all understand that it is difficult to change the existing mindset of people but we are slowly trying to: 1. Educate employees on the e-waste problem (the biggest waste stream in the world). Why does controlling the full life cycle matter? 2. Targeting new potential employees for Scania through IT devices and enabling students risk-free and barrier-less entrance to the IT world which can lead to becoming a trainee in Scania Group. 💪 Amazing opportunity for the students to have a device and opportunity in Scania Group 🤔 3. Bringing one smaller school into Scania's sustainability strategy together with GreenDice. Can sustainability actions by the IT department add value for HR, Marketing, and the company in general? That's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who came to learn more about Oshen last Friday at the IET in London😊. Here's the most popular questions we were asked, and our answers: --- Q: How do we know what sea state the micro-vessels can last in? A: We've tested in up to 25kt constant winds, 40kt gusts, and sea states just beyond the 'small craft warning'⛵ that indicates our 25ft chase boat should no longer be at sea (On the rougher end of 'Moderate' for people familiar with the shipping forecast). When we have a larger fleet later this year we look forward to taking bigger risks with individual micro-vessels and sending them on more challenging missions! --- Q: Have we considered magnetic couplers? A: Yes, especially as it could preserve the mast mechanism if the sail experienced shock loads in harsh conditions (e.g from a breaking wave 🌊). However, our main design ethos is simplicity, and we're going with a simpler design at present that maintains high spring stiffness🪢in the mast while ensuring it's not brittle. --- Q: What other applications could the micro-vessels have? A: In the talk, we covered our most immediate work on Biodiversity monitoring with a focus on protected species observations with DEFRA🐬(more details on this later this month!). This is a big R&D focus for us at the moment, so expect a lot of information about using our micro-vessels for cetacean monitoring in coming months. However, there are other applications of our micro-vessel technology: MetOcean data for more accurate forecasts⛈️, visual observations for Maritime Domain Awareness, low-power oceanographic sensors for scientific research 🧪... if you'd to know more, get in touch! Preparing for AI-Ready world #fintech It was a pleasure meeting you Ahmed Baqi and discussing how large organizations, particularly in the financial services industry #fsi are preparing not just their leaders but crucially the organization structure for an AI-driven world. 💡 Listening to "why" an urgent need for a comprehensive organizational redesign was certainly provoking. 💡 Discussing "what" truly agile means in such a redesign, and how similar Generative AI is to human cognition and mental framing. #agile 💡 Agreeing that ultimately the "how" is far more human and cultural in design vs. machine led; e.g. adopting an observer mode to seek those all important counterfactuals that in combination with machine intelligence, can better frame the opportunities in the future. #machinelearning When combined with setting more diverse impact measures #kpi that unlock not just efficiency but growth equally, the complimentory nature of "human-machine teaming" to solve complexity is quickly becoming a source of unique differentiation. #strategy #leadership #change #Innovation Looking forward to our continued discussions.
