The Dutch Supreme Court has ruled that the government cannot reduce flight movements at Schiphol Airport without adhering to the European Union’s balanced approach procedure. This decision overturned a previous ruling that allowed the Dutch state to implement measures to reduce noise pollution without following EU guidelines. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #ams #thenetherlands #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: Amsterdam Airport

The Dutch government has proposed a plan to manage Schiphol Airport that aims to reduce noise pollution while increasing the annual number of take-offs and landings to between 460,000 and 470,000—a figure 7,500 higher than previously anticipated. This plan comes in response to a court mandate requiring the government to address noise complaints from local residents. Key elements of the proposal include the introduction of quieter planes by KLM starting November, particularly during nighttime hours, and the closure of two problematic runways during the early afternoon to provide noise relief to locals. Furthermore, starting next year, Schiphol will raise landing fees for noisier aircraft and restrict the operation of particularly loud planes like the Boeing 747-400 during night hours. The plan also includes a reduction in the number of night flights by 5,000 to 27,000. Overall, these measures aim to decrease daytime noise nuisance by 20% and nighttime nuisance by 15%. Additionally, the government is considering a partial night flight ban starting in 2026, though this has yet to be finalized. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #ams #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: KLM

A majority of Dutch MPs have voted in favor of a motion to prevent Lelystad airport from opening for commercial traffic. They cite climate concerns, public health, and nitrogen issues as reasons to halt the airport's opening. Originally intended to alleviate pressure on Schiphol airport, the project faced declining support over the years, despite investments of over EUR 200 million to lengthen the runway to 2,700 metres and building a passenger terminal with a capacity of 4 million annual passengers. Lelystad airport was planned to serve 68 flights a day but now faces uncertainty over its future, with potential consequences for night flights at Schiphol. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction Image credit: Shutterstock

Flughafen Wien - Vienna Airport (Austria) has been given a deadline until 2030 to complete the construction of its third runway, as ruled by the Federal Administrative Court (BVwG). The decision comes after the airport had requested a 9.5-year extension until 2033, citing uncertainties in air traffic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the court deemed this extension too lengthy, especially since an expert report suggested a feasible extension of only 6.25 years. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #vie #austria #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: Vienna Airport

The city of Amsterdam, which is a 20% shareholder in Royal Schiphol Group, is pushing for a greater reduction in operations at Schiphol Airport than currently planned by the caretaker government. The aim is to reduce flights to 400,000 annual takeoffs and landings, implement a night-time closure, and ban private jets. These measures are intended to improve the local environment and promote sustainability, even at the cost of potentially reduced dividends. Despite potential economic impacts and reduced airport traffic, especially from transfer passengers, Amsterdam prioritizes local livability and potential housing developments over economic gains from airport operations. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #thenetherlands #ams #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: ANP

Even if you build a new airport in the middle of the desert, simply let a few years pass and the area will be surrounded by housing, triggering social demands for better living standards in the vicinity. Perhaps a buffer zone around every major airport would be a sensible thing to consider. #klm #schiphol #sustainableaviation

Digital Twin & Smart City Strategic Master Planning, Tactical Roadmaps, Project Deployment, Integration, Reality Capture, Program Management
Airports are complex systems with multiple moving parts, including rail, train, shuttle bus, taxi, and ride share. #Simulating outcomes before disruptions occur can be a helpful way to game out options. Effective monitoring of assets and systems in a #digitaltwin can allow early interdiction points to resolve issues before they become disruptions. Disruptions can become monumental, and inclement weather conditions often increase likelihood of failures like the one mentioned in the article below, causing congestion and possible flight delays. Quick decision-making and effective communication strategies are paramount during these times. Surprising and, frankly, alarming to hear the DAA Chief speak positively about a new internal flight route between Cork and Dublin, saying the planes would be "very good for emissions". Seriously?! Spain and France are banning short-haul flights between cities connected by train. The bus, rail and motorway connections between Cork and Dublin are excellent. They're all far better options for the climate than flying, unless there's radical new analysis I'm unaware of. It's troubling, to say the least, that the government is starting to consider Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) as a way to meet our carbon budgets while the head of a State-owned company is encouraging one of the most carbon-intensive activities there is. https://lnkd.in/ebWENK6t

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport's new Pier A, initially budgeted at EUR 500 million, could potentially end up costing EUR 2 billion, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf Schiphol has taken a EUR 400 million loan to complete the pier, now costing EUR 1.4 billion. If they lose a lawsuit against the original builders, TAV and Ballast Nedam, an additional EUR 500 million might be needed. This situation is causing airport fees to rise by 50% to 60% starting next year, which is under negotiation with airlines. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #AMS #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: ANP / YOUR CAPTAIN LUCHTFOTOGRAFIE
