The city of Amsterdam, which is a 20% shareholder in Royal Schiphol Group, is pushing for a greater reduction in operations at Schiphol Airport than currently planned by the caretaker government. The aim is to reduce flights to 400,000 annual takeoffs and landings, implement a night-time closure, and ban private jets. These measures are intended to improve the local environment and promote sustainability, even at the cost of potentially reduced dividends. Despite potential economic impacts and reduced airport traffic, especially from transfer passengers, Amsterdam prioritizes local livability and potential housing developments over economic gains from airport operations. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #thenetherlands #ams #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: ANP

The Schiphol Group reported a profit of EUR 22 million for the year 2023, marking the first time the company has posted positive financial results since the pandemic. This represents a significant recovery from a loss of EUR 77 million in 2022. Despite the positive outcome, the company acknowledged financial pressures due to significant cost increases, investments, and necessary quality improvements. These challenges led to the company not distributing dividends to shareholders for the year, particularly highlighting financial difficulties within its Aviation sector, responsible for operational activities such as security, cleaning, and maintenance. Consequently, airport charges for airlines were increased by nearly 15% at the end of last year. Looking forward, the Schiphol Group anticipates handling over 65 million passengers on at least 460,000 flights in the coming year, expecting an increase in both passenger numbers and flight operations. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction Image credit: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

A majority of Dutch MPs have voted in favor of a motion to prevent Lelystad airport from opening for commercial traffic. They cite climate concerns, public health, and nitrogen issues as reasons to halt the airport's opening. Originally intended to alleviate pressure on Schiphol airport, the project faced declining support over the years, despite investments of over EUR 200 million to lengthen the runway to 2,700 metres and building a passenger terminal with a capacity of 4 million annual passengers. Lelystad airport was planned to serve 68 flights a day but now faces uncertainty over its future, with potential consequences for night flights at Schiphol. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction Image credit: Shutterstock

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport's new Pier A, initially budgeted at EUR 500 million, could potentially end up costing EUR 2 billion, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf Schiphol has taken a EUR 400 million loan to complete the pier, now costing EUR 1.4 billion. If they lose a lawsuit against the original builders, TAV and Ballast Nedam, an additional EUR 500 million might be needed. This situation is causing airport fees to rise by 50% to 60% starting next year, which is under negotiation with airlines. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #AMS #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: ANP / YOUR CAPTAIN LUCHTFOTOGRAFIE

We are partnering with Sydney Airport rolling out our Better Airport® solution for optimization and planning of the airport operation. This initiative will enhance the use of airport infrastructure, specifically check-in counters, and aircraft stands and gates. Kasper Hounsgaard, our Co-CEO, has described the ambition of this collaboration: “𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘈𝘪𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵® 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘺𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘈𝘪𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵.” By combining passenger flows with the allocation of check-in counters, optimized counter opening plans ensure the best possible use of the infrastructure. For the stand and gate allocation, striking the right balance between busing, towing, and pier service results in a higher number of aircraft turns per stand per day, thereby increasing efficiency. To give the development of Air&Rail an extra boost, we developed two videos that show how easy it is to transfer between trains and planes at Schiphol. Yes, it is a small step, as these videos only contribute to better information services and much more needs to be done on our mission to multimodal transport, but it is a crucial step towards the integration of air&rail transport. The easier we can make multimodal transfers, the more demand there will be, and the more we can improve. These videos also yielded valuable insights for the development of Multimodal Transport Hubs. Even on a small scale, uniting the distinct worlds of trains and planes revealed interesting findings. https://lnkd.in/e5WiuhjD

The Dutch Supreme Court has ruled that the government cannot reduce flight movements at Schiphol Airport without adhering to the European Union’s balanced approach procedure. This decision overturned a previous ruling that allowed the Dutch state to implement measures to reduce noise pollution without following EU guidelines. 📰 More details on this story in the next issue of the Momberger Airport Information newsletter. ➡️ Sign up for a free two-month trial here: https://lnkd.in/g8SjE2pp Please type "trial" in the user instructions window. #momberger #airports #airportdevelopment #airportoperations #infrastructure #airtransport #construction #ams #thenetherlands #europe #globaleconomy #aviationindustry Image credit: Amsterdam Airport
