As we immerse ourselves in the excitement of SB LV III (58) and finalize preparations for the upcoming party, ensuring everything is perfect for our guests, I took a moment to reflect on the legacy I'm leaving behind. A recent conversation with my former Senior Enlisted Advisor and friend, Mark Rizzo, Ed. D., sparked insightful and enjoyable discussions, even if a bit heated at times. Recognizing the concept of legacy goes beyond immediate tasks, I pondered the values, principles, and positive influence we impart on those around us. Legacy isn't just about efficiently handling short-term challenges; it's about creating a lasting, positive impression that contributes to the betterment of individuals and the community. Consider the distinction between being remembered for tackling tasks and being someone who, through intentional actions, inspires others to thrive and make a positive impact. Prioritizing self-awareness and balance allows for a more intentional focus on actions aligned with a deeper sense of purpose and values. Consciously building a legacy rooted in compassion, empathy, and meaningful connections goes beyond completing tasks; it leaves an enduring imprint. The pursuit of the best version of oneself involves personal growth and a commitment to positively shaping the lives of others. It's about fostering a legacy that emphasizes self-care, empathy, and mindful decision-making, creating a ripple effect far beyond daily tasks. Thanks for the engaging conversation!

This was a great panel event. Honest accounts of the highs and lows of juggling parenting with career progression, as well as tips to manage day-to-day. Key takeaways for me included: 🕵️Get to know your team - don't assume that just because someone is a parent that their circumstances will be the same as other parents in your team. 👨🏾🍼Parent out loud - being honest (and sometimes vulnerable) about your responsibilities at home can help you feel you can be yourself at work. Spending less energy on hiding what's happening in your personal life can help you to focus more on working efficiently and effectively. 🎯 Flexibility and empathy is key - lead with empathy and compassion to get the best out of people. Look after your people and your people will smash their goals/targets. It's great to know that our senior leaders are human and that they're willing to be brave and share their experiences so that the rest of us can benefit. The Power of Representation Representation matters. The underrepresentation of Black individuals in leadership roles perpetuates a cycle of non-inclusivity and lack of awareness. A mere 3.2% of executive or senior-level positions are held by Black professionals, a glaring disparity that undermines the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
