Tomorrow is the last day to participate in the Batten Alumni Advisory Board’s “Spring Challenge” to fundraise money for the University of Virginia Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. Donations go towards students whom pursue unpaid or underfunded internships in the public sector. This year, the goal is to raise $35,000 to support the Batten School’s future policy leaders. Your donation can: (1) Allow students to pursue internships that align with their passions in policy. (2) Alleviate any financial barriers that prevent today's student leaders from becoming tomorrow’s public servants. (3) Pay forward a metro swipe to work, a networking lunch, or a tank of gas to commute. Having experienced unpaid internships, I know these donations can very much be the margin of success for these students’ careers. The impact compounds far past just funding the internship, as that experience then leverages other opportunities down the road. Join us in raising money for the future policy leaders at the Batten School and help leave a lasting impact in these students careers by making your gift today! #GivingDay #UVA #Batten #PublicSector #Internships “ https://lnkd.in/eEBz9rZ8

Grateful for an Enriching Experience at Hope Uplift Foundation I am pleased to share that I’ve successfully completed a two-month internship at Hope Uplift Foundation. This internship, from June 12 to August 12, 2024, has been a remarkable learning journey, providing me with hands-on experience in various facets of nonprofit operations. During my time at HUF, I had the opportunity to: •Accounts Department: Gained an understanding of the difference between NPO and PO accounts, worked with Peachtree Software, and handled vouching and sourcing of invoices and funds received. •Application Writing & Helpline Operations: Developed skills in drafting donation pitches for individuals and NGOs and managed helpline calls, addressing issues and providing resolutions. •Administration: Attended detailed sessions on administration management, learning how to effectively manage staff and pitch for donations. •Digital Media: Created content for Instagram, YouTube, and the HUF website using Canva. •Women Empowerment HUB Store: Managed inventory, sales, and customer interactions while also contributing to the online store's product listings and descriptions. •Public Assistance: Explored different HUF sectors, brainstormed innovative fundraising ideas, and wrote letters to corporate CSR departments for potential partnerships. •Welfare and Furniture Shop: Managed invoicing, billing, customer relations, and product listings while assisting with the entire sales process, from donation collection to display. •Vocational Training Center: Learned about the center’s operations and how it empowers women through training in skills like stitching and pressing clothes. In addition, I had the privilege of stepping into a leadership role for two weeks, where I guided a team in executing several projects and initiatives. This experience not only enhanced my leadership and decision-making skills but also reinforced the value of teamwork and effective communication. This internship has not only expanded my knowledge and skills but also deepened my understanding of the critical role nonprofits play in community upliftment. I am incredibly thankful to Miss Lubna Shakoh, President and Founder, and Sir Shahroz Janjua , Director of the Internship Program, for their unwavering support and guidance. As I move forward, I am excited to apply what I’ve learned to future endeavors, always keeping in mind the importance of giving back to the community. #internship #nonprofit #leadership #hopeupliftfoundation #communityservice #professionaldevelopment

On this Giving Tuesday, please consider supporting NYC youth through Roads to Success, an organization I have been involved with for many years. The pandemic significantly impacted academic achievement, leaving many students struggling to recover even three years later (article link below). Your donations will directly contribute to reducing education disparities. This #GivingTuesday, our focus is on raising crucial funds for these initiatives: - College prep workshops - College tours for low-income students - College applications/travel for first-gen students - Career-building workshops and leadership events - Paid internship opportunities NYC's youth possess immense potential, but many lack the resources to reach their aspirations. Together, we can rewrite this story! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference. Will you join us in supporting their journey today? Results for America, a non-profit organization that helps government leaders use evidence and data to find solutions to many of society’s ills – recently issued an updated case study about the progress a program in the City of Charlotte has made to improve upward mobility for its children. A decade ago in a study about intergenerational mobility of America’s 50 biggest cities, Charlotte came in dead last, but it's made leagues of progress since. They key has been the Year Up program which, according to the case study, “operates tuition-free and provides its mostly low-income participants with six months of sector-specific technical coursework followed by a six-month internship, with the goal of transitioning them into full-time roles.” This Management Update by Barrett and Greene Inc. delves into the key components of the program, which can be useful in many other cities. However, I also engage in teaching and strive to assist aspiring professionals by offering free internships, sharing knowledge… Another non-commercial aspect of our work that I take pride in is guiding my students to create free dashboards for charitable organizations under my supervision! During the Fall semester, our Volunteer and Community Engagement class (PAD 622) continued working on collaborative efforts involving NKU Graduate Education and Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati. Students in this class worked with THREE nonprofit organizations on NINE service-learning projects: Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati: 1) new board member orientation handbook with updated forms; and 2) board member survey, analyses, and recommendations related board engagement. MUSE, Cincinnati's Women's Choir: 1) virtual information session for prospective volunteers; 2) draft volunteer position descriptions and recruitment ideas; 3) new volunteer handbook; and 4) suggested updates and adjustments to the existing member handbook. American Legacy Theatre: 1) recommendations for a more formal internship program; 2) draft volunteer position descriptions and application form; and 3) volunteer orientation materials. Thanks to all for being VERY ENGAGED in this service-learning experience! Hopefully, our nonprofit partners gained some useful information, ideas, and tools while our students applied the course content and learned more deeply. #NKUMPA #NKU #experientiallearning #learningbydoing #nonprofitmanagement #nonprofits #CommunityShares #MUSE #MUSECincinnati #AmericanLegacyTheatre #ALT #volunteermanagement #volunteerengagement #communityengagement

Today I was planning to talk about my experience at the BNC Show but then something came up, and I just couldn’t post about anything else. Last Thursday, after a day of meetings and before an evening out, I was in the Covent Garden area, looking for a decent place for a hot tea (yes it’s sunny, but can we talk about temperatures these days?? ❄️). I was almost settled on finding a good ol’ Pret, when I saw an independent cafe and thought I’d just give it a shot. I’m normally suspicious of independent cafes because they can be so expensive, but it turns out Fair Shot Cafe ☕ is Not-For-Profit! It offers adults with disability an internship programme in hospitality and then work with their partner employers to get their graduates a job, helping them with the transition and job coaching in the process. It reminded me of the recent Global World Down Syndrome Day campaign ‘Assume That I Can’ (if you have not seen it yet, watch it now). It seems obvious that we should be giving everyone a shot in life and set prejudices aside, but there is a long way to go still. This cafe made my day. I’ve visited several venues this week that all wowed me, but this one was by far the ‘wowest’! You can find them at 3 Slingsby Place, WC2E 9AB, right next to Covent Garden, so very central! Happy Monday! ⭐ PS. The BNC Show was a blast. New and familiars faces, great exhibitors and really insightful seminars. It gave me loads of inspiration and ideas for future events. --------------------------- ARK Venue Finder takes away the hassle of venue finding so you can focus on the fun bit of event organising!
