Older Adults Become Less Frail After Moving into Senior Housing. Vulnerability Levels Off and Declines. Socialization, balanced nutrition, medication management provide a quantifiable improvement on a resident’s health per a study by the University of Chicago. Despite reluctance to entering senior housing, a lifestyle in a senior housing community can help restore a resident’s vitality and independence of the resident. Wider Determinants of Health with MHS Homes Workshop ⭐️ This morning we held a workshop in collaboration with MHS Homes which bought together some of our key partners in Medway that work within the wider determinants of health, particularly around education and housing. The aim of this workshop was to start a conversation on how health can move into the Wider Determinants of Health and build a place based approach to narrow the gap of Health Inequalities in Medway. We had presentations from: - Ashley Hook on MHS Homes and Housing - Simon Cook on opportunities with Education - Nikki Teesdale on the Population Health Management Programme and social regeneration - Natalie Goldring on the Public Health data for Medway -Samantha Whybrow on how the Wider Determinants of Health affect Childhood Asthma - Dr Warren Hickson on the Living Labs programme We then had group working sessions to explore the possibilities of working in collaboration with partners within the Wider Determinants of Health, identifying some quick wins and started to identify how we take a place based approach and work in collaboration. The discussion was extremely rich and the energy was palpable, it was so refreshing to have conversations and hear from people who are so passionate about the people of Medway. This is the very start of the collaboration and I am truly excited about the opportunities arising from this workshop. 🩺 Should our approach to #healthcare be more #proactive rather than just reactive?? Just as the local #library offers #activity and art #clubs, and our community #churches facilitate children's #play groups and #walking meet-ups, shouldn't our local #GP practices also champion #health-centric community #groups and activities? If we're aiming for a #holistic approach to #wellness, it shouldn't just be about treating #illness. It's about fostering a community of health, #prevention, and #wellbeing . We often hear about GPs facing #fatigue, #burnout, and even thoughts of leaving the profession. Imagine the difference we could make if we incorporated "healthy fun" into the fabric of our #healthcare system. Both #patients and #GPs could benefit immensely from such initiatives such waling groups, exercise clubs, group meetings, celebrating health and wellness days, social groups, children's days, mother's clubs, father's groups, etc... Let's reshape our perspective on what healthcare can truly encompass. What do you think?
