𝐆𝐚𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 £𝟏,𝟑𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 We were on the edge of our seats for a charity screening of the 1940s classic film, Gaslight, in aid of local charity, Oasis Domestic Abuse Service. The film, a tense thriller, is well worth a watch as the origin of the term ‘gaslighting’. As part of the screening, which took place at The Woodville in Gravesend, representatives from Oasis discussed the film’s themes of trauma, darkness and violence and how gaslighting techniques are used by domestic abuse perpetrators to control their victims' emotions and actions. Today we’re marking World Homeless Day. As a social housing provider, we’re committed to tackling homelessness in our communities.   We know the best way to do this is to prevent people from losing their homes in the first place, so we provide support and advice to help people maintain their tenancies and stay in their homes long-term. As a Homes for Cathy member, we’ve signed up to nine commitments to reduce homelessness and we work with partners including local councils and charities to make a bigger impact. Last year, 28.5% of our lettings went to homeless households. We’re also boosting our support for young people experiencing homelessness, with the opening of our new Sunrise Foyer. The supported housing scheme will provide accommodation for 16-24 year olds and has the space to support 30 young people. Together with our two existing Foyers, the scheme has the potential to change the lives of hundreds of young people in #Medway. But there’s a need for more affordable, social and supported housing and we’re backing calls for the new government to commit to a long-term plan for housing. #WorldHomelessDay #mhshomes #SocialHousing

Today is World Mental Health Day. The theme this year centres around workplace mental health. It highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities. At mhs homes we have our own dedicated Mental Health Champions who seek to create a supportive culture by raising awareness of mental health, challenging mental health stigma and providing peer support to colleagues. The aim is to learn to recognise the signs of poor mental health and provide mutual support so that we can create healthier, more resilient workplaces where mental wellbeing is a priority for all.   𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐬: - 15% of UK workers are estimated to have an existing mental health condition - 875,000 workers suffered from work-related stress, depression and anxiety in 2022/23  - 5th most common reason for sickness absence in 2022 was mental health. 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: There are lots of places that provide great mental health and other support services. National mental health charity, Mind, has a wealth of information and resources. For information relating to mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, NHS Moodzone can provide practical advice, interactive tools, videos and audio guides to promote mental and emotional wellbeing. NHS Kent and Medway Talking Therapies offer short-term free counselling services for people over 18 suffering from mild to moderate depression, anxiety and other common causes of mental health issues. QWELL offer free online wellbeing and mental health support for everyone. Remember, if you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, phone NHS 111, option 2. You'll then be put through to local services.   In an emergency call 999. #WorldMentalHealthDay #mhshomes #teammhs #mentalhealth
