🌟Our team had an amazing time in beautiful Milwaukee last week! We were able to reconnect, collaborate, and strategize in person, ending the day with a fantastic dinner and happy hour. Cheers to more moments like these!
How many tips can we squeeze in one tip? I did my best :) Because as a group psychotherapist, I know how groups have everything that their members need. We are all auxiliary egos for each other, and the question is: Can we play together?
Thanks to Dr. Franz for having me in this episode. I always learn a lot from Tim, and I think the way we collaborate or co-create each time is a great example of how our strengths and weaknesses come together to achieve our superordinate goals as a team 😍

Another week of Making Team Projects Work with Lauren Vicker. This week's team tip is from Ozge Kantas Yorulmazlar, Ph.D., CP, PAT, a colleague within my department at St. John Fisher University. Her tip is about how to utilize all the different perspectives within a team, because a team "has everything in it" to succeed!
On the power of “Yes” and the magic of community collaboration - a throwback to a day that defines innovation and resilience.
Ten years ago, as dawn broke and I made my way back from a workshop I had led in Eagle Pass, and while on the road a call from Bastrop—where I had the honor of working at the time—changed the course of my day and, in many ways, my approach to opportunities.
I remember this day because It was International Happiness Day, and a friend a and Bastrop residnet called with an idea: “Could we shoot a video set to the tune of “Happy,” a song that was trending at the time to celebrate International Happiness Day?”
Honestly, I thought, “It’s 7 in the morning. I’m driving a rented Prius four hours from Bastrop, and you want to shoot, produce, and post a video today?”
So, naturally, I said l, “Yes,” because that’s what Super Dave Quinn would do.
The logistics seemed daunting. Me, miles away driving in a rented Prius, with the day already in full swing. But the essence of innovation isn’t in the ‘how’ but the ‘yes.’
“Yes,” I found myself saying. Yes to the unpredictable, yes to the seemingly impossible, because that’s what we do.
The video below is more than a memory. It’s a reminder of the power in embracing opportunities, no matter how unexpected.
It wasn’t about the how; it was about the will. And as the day unfolded, so did the path to making it happen, guided by a community’s heart and hustle.
This experience taught me countless lessons, but the most profound was the incredible feats we can achieve when we foster a culture of yes. It’s about more than just agreeing; it’s about opening doors to possibilities, about communities and individuals coming together to turn a vision into reality.
This video, crafted in a single day, stands as a vibrant reminder of what’s possible when we unite in creativity and purpose.
As you watch, I hope you’re reminded of the power within you to embrace opportunities, lead with optimism, and build something meaningful together. Let’s carry this spirit of possibility into every challenge, every project, every day.
Here’s to saying “Yes” - to opportunities, to community, and to making the impossible possible. Watch to the end to see all the folks who said Yes and helped make it happen.
Bonus points: drop a comment on the investment you think it took to produce this.

I’ve been thinking about the importance of the journey, rather than the destination, but is it not the people with us on our journey who make it all worthwhile.
We had an important meeting on Friday, I was with colleagues, a team.
It was part of the journey that would hopefully lead to the desired outcome.
It was the people I was with that made it a unique experience.
Trust in each other.
Diversity.
Knowledge pooled together, creating a dynamic team.
People that support, challenge and inspire.
Constructive feedback.
Those people we meet on the journey that leave a lasting impression.
Shaping of our experiences and memories.
Assisting us to become the best versions of ourselves.
The sense of community and shared purpose.
Making it memorable and worthwhile.
Celebrate the journey, always respectfully, with those who care.
They are the ones who make the journey extraordinary.
And the results meaningful and significant.
And on our continent we should always assist in creating meaningful journeys for others.
As we approach the "unofficial start to summer" with Memorial Day next week, we wanted to explore ways to "Bloom Where You Work" and have fun at the office!
It is important to many employees to have a workplace where they feel comfortable, safe, and enjoy being there. As a business owner, you can help facilitate this by implementing a few small, and often inexpensive measures to help bring the "fun" into the workplace!
- Build a system of recognition. This is easier than it seems, and is great to foster within your company from the top down. Finding ways to celebrate the little wins is the first step. Everything from closing a contract with a dream client, meeting a tight deadline, or coming in under budget, can be an opportunity to celebrate. Encourage your employees and managers to recognize and celebrate with each other, through verbal praise, a high five, or a quick shout out. Super simple, and FREE!
Stay tuned for more ideas to help make your workplace more FUN!
I am doing writing exercises, so buckle up :)
(context in the original post - not clickbait, but I am sharing opportunities from both organizers and ticket buyers perspective so separate-ish)
Event fam with who're producing these big tent industry events with wide topic coverage - my two cents.
If your event attendees are on small teams, but only one or two titles coming through, it may be worth exploring opportunities to provide value to other members of their team.
What does an integrated, cost effective, "team retreat" experience look like for your event? Turn 1 attendee into 4 or 10(!)?
There is an opportunity - one that may have been tried and failed plenty of times, but it can't ALWAYS fail, right?
Lean into the package pricing for teams. Diversify your content and engagement strategies for the top 4-5 titles most commonly seen on these teams, nurture sub communities within your attendees based on responsibilities on the ground level of a business.
Create the space, be smart about programming and scheduling, and you create a completely unique, but clearly integrated experience between the teams on their retreats and you, their host, in ways that capitalize on what already exists with your primary event. Your event might be the setting of their favorite team story.
The margin might be a bit tighter on this type of experience for 5-10% of ticket holders, but guest count, floor time, and face time are meaningful metrics for vendors and these groups of attendees are in go-mode.
Also - go slow and don't wreck your event by leaning to hard into this to quickly. Respect what you've got working for you.
And let the folks who want to piggyback piggyback in peace if they so chose :-)

If you have a small, distributed team (<10), and you want to bring folks together IRL, find an established industry event that your whole team could benefit from attending. Carving out time before/during/after that event and hosting a team retreat that piggybacks on the established event could be a way to maximize your budget while checking off some of the key goals of getting together in-person.
