Though Pride Month is meant to be a celebratory month, we would be remiss if we didn't hold space for the constant threats to BIPOC queer lives in this country and in our sport. With that said, awareness is not enough–we need action! Here's a list of some actionable items you can take: 📌 Ask questions, and do your own research. 📌 Recognize your privilege and use it for good. 📌 Take your online activism into real-life scenarios. 📌 Speak up for the underrepresented. 📌 Follow the lead of your LGBTQIA+ peers and organizations. We also encourage you to take time to facilitate meaningful conversations about making the running industry and run communities safer and more inclusive for BIPOC queer runners. And, check out this RIDC blog post that highlights historic LGBTQIA+ figures. ➡️ https://loom.ly/pw1fX4I #PrideMonth #Running4Diversity

World Braille Day on January 4 is celebrated to honor the birth of Braille’s inventor, Louis Braille. Braille’s gift to the world has brightened the lives of millions of people around the world who are blind or visually impaired, and they benefit from his work every day. The day also acknowledges that those with visual impairments deserve the same standard of human rights as everyone else. Background Eye conditions are remarkably common. The World Health Organization estimates that globally, at least 1 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment that could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, adopted in 2006, has advanced the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The Convention considers Braille essential for education, freedom of expression and opinion, access to information and social inclusion. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015, further pledges that no one will be left behind in the aim to ensure that all human beings can enjoy prosperous and fulfilling lives. The 56th Girl Scout National Convention has passed. Many of us are still "riding the high", unpacking, gifting, sorting photos (so many photos) and setting our sights on 2026. Amidst the euphoria that was convention for me, perhaps the proudest moment is encapsulated in Proposal 4. It proposed inserting "anti-racism" into the preamble to our Girl Scout constitution. While steadfast in the values Girl Scouting represents to me, I was weary and prepared for the worse. Silly me. Turns out, there was no need. In a time when some are trying to "put the DEI genie back in the bottle", Girl Scout delegates (girls and adults) from across the country, stood firm in our promise of inclusivity. By majority vote, not only was Proposal 4 approved but ammended to include "...actively identify and oppose racism by removing systemic barriers...". "....actively identify and oppose racism..." How could I be so fortunate to hold a "day job" that aligns with my values? It both fills my heart and brightens our path forward. Not being a governance expert, I am unsure of what details are appropriate to post but if you are a DEIRJ champion, I recommend you read Proposal 4 in its entirety. Or you can choose to print the proposal, the outcome, and frame it for your office. I know I will. #girlscouts #dei #racialjustice #2023phenom #diversityequityandinclusion

“We lift each other up” ABC Everyday – By Josh Green As an obviously gay kid in the Blue Mountains, Josh Green says he was only included in sport if he had to be. "It was ostracising and reminded me that I wasn't one of the boys," he remembers. When we are advocating for disabled children, ‘good’ is not good enough. When we book a swimming lesson, there is a definite satisfaction in having done something. But we continually remind ourselves that - especially when working for the well-being of others - we should strive for excellence rather than settling for any type of progress. Many times I’ve heard myself saying "I'd rather she has a bad swimming lesson than no swimming lesson." This reflects a common pitfall where we are satisfied with doing something rather than doing the right thing. Of course we celebrate progress, but must not lose sight of the goal. We are called to move beyond that comfort of progress and embrace the responsibility to recognise that this progress often only helps a small proportion of those we seek to support. ‘Good is not good enough’ is our rallying cry to raise our standards, and the standards of those around us. It challenges the status quo and urges us to set our sights on building something that’s great, equal, and fair. It compels us to question existing norms and to envision a future where every child has access to not just good, but fabulous opportunities. To not merely build something, but to build the right thing, at scale. To champion our cause with a commitment to excellence, equality, and the unwavering belief that every child deserves not just the chance to participate, but the chance to flourish. #advocacy #disabilityrights #inclusion #equality

🌟 Celebrating Juneteenth: A Commitment to Community and Equality 🌟 Today, on Juneteenth, we commemorate a pivotal moment in American history—the end of slavery in the United States. This day not only marks freedom but also reminds us of the ongoing journey towards equality and justice for all. At Business for Good, our mission is to nurture the health, well-being, and future of our local communities. We believe that the strength of our communities lies in their diversity and the unique contributions of every individual. This Juneteenth, we stand in solidarity with those who continue to fight for justice and equality, and we reaffirm our commitment to creating deeply connected, thriving communities. Let’s think differently about business, giving, and our roles in each other's lives. Together, we can change the circumstances in our communities and ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. ❤️ Join us in celebrating Juneteenth by committing to actions that support equality, justice, and community well-being. It's a 2-for-1 #MeetYourRecruiter post! Today, I'm wearing pink to celebrate diversity and speak out against discrimination in honour of International Day of Pink and #EqualPay (which I missed yesterday). 👔 In the workplace, promoting inclusivity and ensuring equal pay are crucial steps towards creating environments where everyone can thrive. As we commemorate the International Day of Pink, let's reflect on the ongoing fight for equality, including equal pay for LGBTQ+ individuals. 💼 It's important to recognize that LGBTQ+ individuals still face disparities in many aspects of life, including the workplace. While progress has been made, there is still work to be done to address issues such as pay inequities and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. 🌟 As we wear pink to show our support today, let's also recommit ourselves to fostering workplaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued for who they are. Together, we can continue to advocate for positive change and create a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Let's stand together against homophobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny. As someone who identifies as queer, I'm committed to creating a more inclusive workplace for everyone. #diversityandinclusion #LGBTQIA+

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the impact and awareness that June brings in the workplace, ending stigma, and supporting people from all communities and walks of life. 💫 We commemorate National Cancer Survivors Day, working to end stigma in the workplace and honor the resilience of survivors. 🖤 Juneteenth: A time to reflect on the emancipation of slaves, the struggle for equality and the ongoing fight against racial injustice across North America. 🏳️🌈 Pride Month: Embracing our collective responsibility towards equity for our LGBTQ2+ communities. 🧑🤝🧑 National Indigenous History Month: Recognizing the history, heritage, and culture of Indigenous peoples in Canada. 💙 Men’s Health Month: Raising awareness of health issues affecting men and boys. 🌍 World Refugee Day: Honoring the strength and courage of refugees around the world. 🕊️ Acknowledging Victims of War: Taking a moment to honor the victims of war and the ongoing efforts to protect and defend innocent lives. Let’s stand together in solidarity, and continue to advocate for and uplift communities in need. Take advantage of the opportunities and benefits to learn from other people’s perspectives. Don’t forget to give a shout out to your fellow culture leads, DE&I representatives and people advocates out there, staying true to such important initiatives. #JuneAwareness #EndStigma #SupportCommunities #PrideMonth #Juneteenth #IndigenousHistoryMonth
