📢BREAKING NEWS📢 AXREM Supports the Heart Restart Tax Campaign to Scrap Defibrillator Tax AXREM is joining a coalition of leading first aid and cardiovascular charities and organisations in supporting the campaign to scrap the VAT on Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), a move that would increase affordability and save lives. The Heart Restart Tax campaign, led by the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA), brings together community groups, charities, businesses, and MPs to campaign for change. The campaign is backed by a range of organisations, including the British Heart Foundation, St John Ambulance, and the British Red Cross. Defibrillators are used to restart a person’s heart in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, and early treatment can increase survival rates to as high as 70% if defibrillation is given within three to five minutes of collapse. However, the median distance to an AED from the centre of any given UK postcode is over 700 metres—an average 19-minute walking distance there and back. Last week, I shared that in mid-July, I will be attempting to row approx. 650km across the North Sea from Scotland to Norway. Through this row I hope to raise awareness and much needed funds for a UK #NGO, Children Not Numbers, whose mission is to provide urgent medical support and long-term rehabilitation for children affected by conflict. Their main objectives are: ✔Children’s Immediate short-term medical evacuation ✔Optimising in-country medical treatment ✔Sustainable rehabilitation support ✔Advocacy for children’s rights ✔Orphan Support ✔Upskilling Junior Gazan Medics So far the response has been fantastic and in less than a week people have very generously donated over 𝗚𝗕𝗣𝟭,𝟴𝟬𝟬. This money will be used in various ways… 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 £𝟭𝟮𝟱 will feed a family of 5 for one month. The distributions are made to sick and injured children so their family do not have to worry about food security during their worst days. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 £𝟱𝟬𝟬 will cover the cost of medicine and specialist infant milk for sick, premature and/or malnourished babies in Gaza. 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 £𝟴𝟬𝟬 per month will pay doctors who are working in Gaza and provide them will essentials. £𝟱𝟬𝟬 per month for a medical volunteer. 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗼𝘆𝘀 £𝟯,𝟬𝟬𝟬 will transport sick and critically injured children to hospitals for treatment or to the border for evacuation. The economic crisis in Lebanon is preventing the population from accessing healthcare services. The devaluation of the local currency and the spiraling inflation have led to an increase in the prices of essential goods, including medications and medical equipment. Hospital charges have gradually increased over the period of the crisis, but they have been dollarized starting last week. At the same time, salaries are still stagnant and paid in LBP, making them significantly less valuable. According to UNICEF (2022), more than 50% of the population can't afford their required medications, and 34% of children cannot access healthcare. In response to the presented situation, the Lebanon Emergency Medical Fund (LEMF) campaign has been launched. The outcome of this campaign will help secure a medication, ensure the cost of a lifesaving surgery, or simply enhance someone’s access to healthcare. Any amount you pay is going to count a lot for patients who are struggling in hospitals or even those who need to be there but can’t afford it. Neelam Gul . After successfully executing this project, which had four beneficiaries, we made a significant impact on people’s lives. Here’s a summary of our initiatives: AMT Medical and Dental Clinic Project: We donated eight medical instruments and one surgical instrument to AMT Medical and Dental Clinic, a trust hospital in Lahore. The hospital provides free medical check-ups and medication facilities to those less fortunate. Our goal was to address their specific needs and raise funds for this sector, which contributes significantly to societal well-being. With nearly 50 people visiting the hospital daily, these additional instruments will make a difference by allowing access to check-ups that would otherwise be costly. Eidi Old Homes Project: We mobilized funds to provide a wheelchair for Eidi Old Homes, enhancing mobility and comfort for elderly residents. Our commitment to supporting seniors’ well-being drove this effort, promoting inclusivity and improving their quality of life. Financial Assistance for a Low-Income Family: We extended financial support to a low-income family: They earned PKR 500 per day, PKR 3500 per week, and PKR 15,000 per month. We donated PKR 15,000 to a father whose daughter was getting married, helping cover wedding expenses. Additionally, we assisted another family with a kidney patient, allocating part of the funds for their medical needs. In all our endeavors, our motivation lies solely in serving Allah and inspiring others in the community. Since 2019, Lebanon is facing very difficult and exceptional circumstances that were further exacerbated by an ongoing catastrophic economic and financial crisis. The Lebanese health system is one of the most affected sectors by the current crisis, and basic health services have become almost unaffordable for large numbers of individuals. Under such dark circumstances, the public's need for free Emergency Medical Services (EMS) became of greater necessity. Expanding the coverage of these services and increasing their numbers are urgently needed. We are launching an appeal to support our emergency medical services in Lebanon in 2024. In anticipation of the upcoming UK General Election, we are urging all political parties to commit to addressing the key challenges affecting air ambulance charities across the UK. 1. Hospital Helipads and Community Landing Sites Ensure that all new and existing UK Major Trauma Centres and specialist hospitals (such as cardiac centres) have 24/7 accessible on-site primary hospital helipads. Assist Local Planning Authorities in developing a specialised safeguarding process to protect UK-wide hospital helipads against adverse effects from planning and developments. Establish an efficient consultation pathway to proactively engage Air Ambulances UK and air ambulance charities in strategic planning discussions, concerning hospital helipads and community landing sites in the UK. 2. Patient Data Secure safe access to NHS patient data for air ambulance charities to enable them to gain further insight into the full patient pathway and ultimately the patient outcome.  3. Increased Demand and Cost Support the air ambulance community to enhance methods of income generation through distribution of UK-wide grants and capital funding, ensuring that air ambulance charities can operate effectively with equitable service provision to continue to meet the surge in demand and increased operational costs.  4. Statutory Levy Oppose the proposed statutory levy of 0.1% of 'gross gambling yield' (GGY) on lotteries. Advocate for a zero rate of statutory levy for lotteries and a continuation of the current system of voluntary contributions, in recognition of the unique contribution lotteries make to charitable causes, such as air ambulances.  Together, we can make a real difference to enable air ambulance charities to save even more lives and remain at the forefront of pre-hospital care, helping to reduce loss of life in people with life-threatening injuries or a medical emergency.
