🌍 Reflecting on Feminist Foreign Policy and AI 🤖✨ On September 12, 2023, Data Innovation Lab hosted an insightful session titled "Feminist Foreign Policy meets AI Feminism," exploring the intersection of gender equality and technology in foreign policy. This event, supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, brought together thought leaders to discuss how feminist principles can inform AI development, ensuring more inclusive and just societies. Key speakers, including Claudia Brinkmann from the German Federal Foreign Office and Lauren F. Klein, co-author of "Data Feminism," emphasized the importance of ethical data usage. They discussed how algorithms, if not carefully designed, can perpetuate inequalities, underscoring the need for a feminist approach to AI that aligns with feminist foreign policy goals. I feel happy and honored to have been chosen as a consultant for a groundbreaking international project by the Council of Europe, dedicated to addressing #discrimination in the use of #artificialintelligence (#AI) in #PublicAdministrations. This project, titled ‘Defending Equality and Non-Discrimination by Equality Bodies in the Context of AI in Public Administrations’, will run until August 2026 and is designed to empower #EqualityBodies across #europe to tackle the rising challenges of AI systems, which - despite their benefits - can inadvertently foster discrimination. Co-funded by the #EuropeanUnion, this initiative is closely aligned with the #AIAct and the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on #aiandhumanrights. These frameworks are pioneering steps toward ensuring that AI development remains #humancentered, while safeguarding #HumanRights, #democracy, and the #RuleofLaw. The project emphasizes a critical focus: equipping equality bodies across the EU to fight discrimination related to #gender, #Ethnicity, #religion, #disability, #age, or #sexualorientation in a #digitalera. It is a privilege to be part of an initiative that addresses one of the most important ethical issues of our time: how we harness AI for good while preventing it from perpetuating inequality. I am excited to collaborate with experts and policymakers in shaping a more just, inclusive, and equitable digital future for all. Together with my colleagues and students at NOVA School of Law, our goal is to give back to the broader community, demonstrating that our studies are not merely for personal fulfilment or gaining knowledge, but to make a meaningful impact on the world and drive real, tangible change. https://lnkd.in/dRRuqpYr
