On July 13, 1977, New York City experienced a 25-hour blackout after lightning struck a substation along the Hudson River. This tripped two circuit breakers and set off a chain of events that resulted in a widespread power failure, crippling the city's largest generator. Sponsored by EDF Energy Services, headquartered in Houston, "77 Problems" revisits that pivotal time in New York City. In this short documentary, I recount the day that shaped my career and the energy industry. Special thanks to Ms. MaryAnne Brelinsky, former president of EDF Energy Services, Mr. Mark Ishac and the incredible team at Zpryme [77 Problems Documentary: https://lnkd.in/ekMmvqx and https://lnkd.in/gJ477dSG]. The current suffering and outages in Houston have significant adverse impacts on human life and society. As we remember the 1977 blackout, it's overdue to understand parallels and address today's challenges with resilient infrastructure and innovative energy solutions. My thoughts are with my friends, colleagues, and the people of Houston. Here is my take on post-hurricane efforts and options going forward: https://lnkd.in/gFVwJa5U. Long-term harm Delayed encephalopathy: After waking up from a coma, some patients with acute CO poisoning may experience dementia, stupor, paralysis agitans, hemiplegia, epileptic seizures, sensory motor disorders and other mental and neurological complications after a period of false recovery (2 to 60 days), which is called delayed encephalopathy. This is a serious complication after CO poisoning, which has a long-term impact on the patient's quality of life. Nervous system damage: CO poisoning is particularly serious for the nervous system, and even mild poisoning may cause short-term neurological dysfunction. People who are exposed to low concentrations of CO for a long time may experience chronic poisoning symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, memory loss, and inattention. So it is particularly important to detect the concentration of CO in a timely manner.
