This morning, I received an email with the subject line "Skyrocketing Tuna". I immediately imagined it written in Indiana Jones font, advertising the lamest adventure movie ever. Once I stopped giggling, I was able to review a very serious report from our supply chain team. Simply put, a can of tuna fish - a staple of my childhood and Crosslines food pantry - has increased in price 70% this year. Seventy percent. In the last five months, we've seen 49% more families at Crosslines than we did in the same time last year. Last year was up 20% from the year before. Even after streamlining our services and consolidating under one roof (a measure which cut our utilities in HALF) this rapidly increasing demand for services is quickly outpacing our available resources. Inflation is hitting food prices hard. And it's hitting Crosslines too. We are stretched. Thin. Some simple math for you: A flat budget + 49% increase in demand + 70% price increase = Tuna is something we may no longer be able to provide the hundreds of families who visit us each week. What is it worth to you to feed a hungry child? Is it worth the price of a can of tuna? What if it was your child who was hungry? Will you help us, help them? For about the price of a cheeseburger meal, you can provide a family of four groceries for a week. I hope you join me in combatting hunger right here in SW Missouri. Your gift can change lives! ccozarks.org/donate

If you ever look at the tags on our social media posts and wonder, "Who are they?" we'll tell you now. They're our partners, and we couldn't do what we do without them. There's a lot to running an organization like ours and while we greatly appreciate when people give us money, we also benefit from the guidance and steering that these groups give us. As a group barely a year old, we soak up all the tips and lessons that our partners can give us. It's also a sign of how things should be in the nonprofit world. We need to help each other. There is competition for resources, yes, but there's also plenty of opportunity for collaboration and referrals. A volunteer who may be unsuited for one agency could thrive in a different one. For example, someone who signed up to help at an animal shelter may find out the hard way that pet dander is not their friend. But walking dogs for a group like Elderdog is right up their alley. Our mission at Volunteer Peterborough is simple; we strive to match volunteers to the ideal organization, and make the recruitment process easier. Our partner agencies make that happen. Stop by our Partners page and see the full group of people that help us do what we do. And we love them for it. https://buff.ly/3JFesd7 #FanFriday #NonProfitLife #ValuableAssets #Partners #CommunityBuilding #Besties

Here's to each of us improving some part of our world. #Leadership #Kindness #Impact #Perspective
Caitlin Clark’s most impactful NIL deal hasn't paid her anything at all. When NIL passed in 2021, the Coralville Community Food Pantry immediately turned to the Iowa basketball star for help. They offered to pay her for her promotion, but Clark insisted that she work for free. She’s helped raise more than $100,000 in two years.

This week, over 400 YMCA Advocates from across the country are gathering for National Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress and share their stories of impact. Add your voice by taking action today! Y advocates are asking Congress to help the Y strengthen community by working to: 1️⃣ Help working families access child care by approving the highest level of funding possible for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). 2️⃣ Improve the nation's health by supporting the highest level of funding possible for CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. 3️⃣ Support nonprofits and civil society by cosponsoring the Charitable Act to create a universal charitable deduction and increase charitable giving. 4️⃣ Increase access to essential services in rural areas by cosponsoring the Investing in Rural America Act, which would provide resources for building and renovating facilities such as child care centers and hospitals. Take action today: Urge them to work with the Y in 2024 on our mission to strengthen communities!
Take action during the Y's National Advocacy Days!
