Made in europe! 20 major electrolyser manufacturers, including Nel Hydrogen, Siemens Energy and thyssenkrupp nucera, are working together to support Europe's hydrogen industry and curtail the influx of cheap Chinese imports. They have signed a letter calling on the European Commission President nominee Ursula von der Leyen to ensure a level playing field and require more "made in Europe" standards for the industry. "I don't want to give up on Europe. If we don't create demand for European technology in Europe, we squander the opportunity for European OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] to win." Says Nel Hydrogen CEO and President Håkon Volldal. Read the article and the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/d_AXCHSd
The European Commission is in desperate need of new leadership. The priorities and achievements of the current President are woefully inadequate for seizing this monumental yet ephemeral opportunity. Progress has been agonisingly slow, much to the benefit of the competition that has clearly understood the stakes of the game and is sparing no effort or expense in capturing the lead. Fortunately for NEL, India has understood. Even the USA has understood. Apparently, the EU - sitting on immeasurable capital in human and technological resources - is hardly listening. This window of opportunity will not remain open forever.
