In the ongoing commitment to maritime security, EMASoH – Operation AGENOR continues its reassurance calls to merchant vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf region. In the month of December, the efforts of our maritime patrol aircraft Atlantique 2 operating under command of Operation AGENOR have yielded significant results. A total of 47 reassurance calls have been conducted. These reassurance calls are not merely routine procedures; they embody the proactive approach to maritime security involving direct communication with crews of merchant vessels. As we reflect on the achievements of December, we recognise the critical role played by our maritime patrol aircraft. DefenceNT Update: NORSTA Maritime has been awarded the Regional Maintenance Provider contract for the Navy’s Regional Maintenance Centre – North, a $150 million five-year contract that will generate direct jobs and support the local maritime subcontractor network.  A key priority area identified in response to the Defence Strategic Review is improving the ability of the Australian Defence Force to operate from Australia’s northern bases. The Northern Territory is a critical defence and national security hub for the Australian Defence Force and our allied partners. 🎖 Valor Ignored: Pete Buttigieg’s Shameful Neglect of US Sailors Under Fire ⚠️ The US Merchant Marine has been relentlessly targeted by Houthi forces in the Red Sea. These mariners, operating under the US flag, have bravely navigated treacherous waters to deliver vital supplies amidst escalating hostilities. Houthi militants have launched numerous assaults on US merchant vessels, aiming to disrupt critical maritime routes and intimidate those who dare to ensure the flow of essential goods. ⏳ Historically, Merchant Mariners have never received the same recognition as US Navy sailors. However, previous secretaries have awarded Merchant Marine Expeditionary and other medals to those in combat zones. These recognitions are crucial as they unlock federal burial benefits and are the first step for Merchant Mariners injured or killed in action to obtain VA benefits. Buttigieg’s refusal to issue awards, or even to take five minutes to thank these mariners in a video address, is denying them their hard-earned benefits. India 🇮🇳 will be drawn further and further into the security of the Arabian Sea & the Arabian Gulf as U.S. naval strength is repositioned to the Far East/Western Pacific. It will do its job well, but as India flexes its muscles, will it be a partner of the West in this enterprise? Or, will they create their own view of themselves independent of U.S. or European interests? Or even Russian?

Pakistan Navy War Ship safely rescued 8 Iranian fishermen from open sea after uncontrollable fire occurred on their boat, the Pakistan Navy said in a statement on Monday. Its been reported that Argentina has been looking at purchasing American war planes to boost its military as well as new surface ships and one or more submarines. Do we have anything better than a few thousand, second hand, inflatable boats to send over to supplement our navy presence at this time? Its so much cheeper to prevent a war than to fight one, so we need to update our forces pritty quickly. Which would (if done well) would give the Argentinan government cause to rethink. We need this update (I suggest) within 18 months to deter, as Argentina is in need (politics wise) of something to crow about. And a refreshed ambition to dominate a weak UK Falklands presence would fit the bill nicely. Particularly so, if some of the new Argentinan equipment came from our so called best mates, the Americans. Turkish Navy vessel arrived at the Port of Mogadishu on Tuesday following the signing of a defense and economic agreement between Somalia and Türkiye in February this year. The navy will receive an $11 billion boost over the next decade to expand its fleet of warships from 11 to 26 vessels under a radical overhaul designed to prepare the defence force for possible conflict in the Indo-Pacific. Under the plan, the navy will acquire up to 11 new general purpose frigates to replace the deteriorating ANZAC-class ships and a new fleet of drone-like vessels that can operate without sailors on board. While the government insists it remains committed to continuous shipbuilding in South Australia and Western Australia, some vessels will be bought “off-the-shelf” from overseas to accelerate the delivery of new warships. The planned fleet of Hunter-class frigates will be cut from nine to six ships and the Arafura offshore patrol vessel program halved from 12 to six boats following a review of the nation’s surface fleet led by retired US vice-admiral William Hilarides. https://lnkd.in/g2dj7dQA
