In the silent depths of the ocean, where only a select few know the location, a Royal Navy submarine returns from a mission that is vital to the UK's national security. #Britainsnucleardeterrent #Britainsnuclearsecurity #continuousatseadeterrent #DreadnoughtClasssubmarine #JohnHealeydefencepolicy #nucleardeterrenttriplelock #nuclearsubmarineconstruction #RoyalNavysubmarinepatrol #UKdefencestrategy #UKnuclearsubmarines #thxnews

A new definition of sea transport was born with the advent of hovercrafts. Their capacity to navigate shallows that were previously inaccessible to conventional boats presents an opportunity for the Philippines to rethink its strategy. Free from the constraints of guarded deep-water entrances, earlier inaccessible shallows can be treated as navigable territory. It's a bold approach that adds flexibility and leverage over the visible power asymmetry between the Philippine Navy and the PLA Navy. https://lnkd.in/gWQawmhR

China’s New Naval Leader A submariner with extensive at sea time. One of the areas the PLA Navy has been working to improve is subsea warfare, could this be an indication of focus on this warfare area? Whatever the intent of Admiral Hu’s selection, he brings an intimate understanding of undersea warfare, which figures prominently in any war over Taiwan: https://lnkd.in/euBJVMKz

Environmental Analyst at Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Not currently seeking other employment.
July 1953 at the old #SouthBoston Naval Annex, part of the #Boston Navy Yard, facing northwest. The photo shows fifteen aircraft carriers from the #USNavy Atlantic Reserve Fleet, with USS Leyte in the foreground, shortly before she was converted to an antisubmarine carrier. The other fourteen are small escort carriers built on modified cargo ship hulls. Most of the ships in the picture were less than ten years old, but the pace of technological change, the rapid transition to jet aircraft after WW2 and the dawn of the missile age meant that these ships were now thoroughly obsolete for their original purpose. Nevertheless, due to the Cold War, many of these ships were kept in reserve until the late 1950s. The Boston Navy Yard was established in 1801, mostly in #Charlestown. The South Boston Naval Annex was created in 1920. Boston Navy Yard as a whole closed in 1974, most of the dock space filled in, and converted to mostly warehousing space on several new streets including Seafood Way. Dry Dock No. 3 is still one of the largest drydocks on the east coast. #history #technology #engineering

Canada used to be a small county but with -40m people we can no longer afford to have a small town attitude to national security Last week the UK Royal Navy introduced its sixth Astute-class attack submarine named HMS Agamemnon. This state-of-the-art nuclear-powered submarine is set to be launched later this year. This is vessel 6 of 7 being introduced into service to protect UK national security. There is very little that surface vessels or land assets can do to detect or neutralise such a fleet. Canada should follow Australia into an upgraded AUKUS agrement to reinforce like minded democratic institutions. Canada has the talent and resources to buildout a world class submarine fleet worthy of this great country. The Astute submarines are built in the North-west of England in a not so small town called Barrow-in-Furness and the resources, skills and experience are well within the capabilities of any of our sea facing provinces. As the Astute program winds down in the UK perhaps a commercial alliance to build Astutes in Canada is necessary?
The Royal Navy's latest Astute Class submarine has been officially named Agamemnon at our Submarines site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Agamemnon - named after the ancient Greek king - is the sixth of seven Astute submarines. 🔗Find out more: http://baes.co/jew850RmZkY Learn more about Astute Class submarines 👉 http://baes.co/b1eh50RmZTG
