We have a new waiting family to share! Hello! We’re Brent and Mindy. We’ve been married for nearly six years and are proud parents to our sweet daughter, Josie, who came into our lives through adoption in 2023. We’re so honored to share a little about ourselves and are excited to welcome another baby into our home! Mindy grew up in Mississippi and worked as a registered nurse before transitioning to being a stay-at-home mom—a role she’s embraced wholeheartedly as she gets to be there for all of Josie’s precious milestones. Brent was raised in the Houston area and works in finance. As a family, we enjoy local activities like going to the farmer’s market, playing with our pups, going to the playground, or eating at our favorite restaurants. We love hosting friends and family in our home for dinners, watching sports, and having game nights. Our faith in God is the foundation of our lives, and we believe that adoption is a beautiful reflection of His love and grace. We are so thankful the Lord led us down the path of adoption a few years ago after having infertility struggles, because adoption has been the biggest blessing in our lives. We are forever grateful for the relationship we have with Josie’s birth family. We feel that God is telling us “it’s time” to expand our family again through adoption, and we are so ready to watch His plan unfold and also watch Josie become a big sister! We trust in God’s perfect timing and plan, and we are humbled by the opportunity to share in this part of your story. We are praying for you and your baby, and we deeply admire your strength, courage, and the love you’re showing in considering this path for your child. The story of the Shravan baby in the Ramayana is a powerful and timeless tale that holds lessons and insights that are relevant even in today's age. Here are a few ways in which this story can be applied in contemporary times: 1. Importance of empathy and compassion: The story of the Shravan baby emphasizes the importance of empathy and compassion towards others. When King Dasharatha accidentally kills the baby while mistaking him for a deer, his heart breaks with remorse. This teaches us to be mindful of our actions and to consider the feelings of others before acting. 2. The consequences of rash actions: King Dasharatha's hasty decision to go hunting without considering the consequences leads to the tragic death of an innocent child. This serves as a reminder to us to think before we act and to be aware of the potential consequences of our actions. 3. The bond between parents and children: The story of Shravan and his parents highlights the deep bond and love between parents and their children. It shows how the loss of a child can devastate a family and reminds us to cherish and value our relationships with our loved ones. 4. Respect for elders and caregivers: Shravan's devotion and dedication towards his aging and blind parents is a powerful lesson in respecting and caring for our elders and caregivers. This is especially relevant in today's age where the elderly are often neglected or mistreated. 5. Upholding the duty towards family: Shravan's unwavering commitment to fulfilling his duty towards his parents despite the challenges he faced is a testament to the importance of family values and responsibilities. In today's fast-paced and individualistic world, this story serves as a reminder to prioritize our family and fulfill our duties towards them. In summary, the story of the Shravan baby in the Ramayana teaches us valuable lessons about empathy, mindfulness, and the importance of family bonds, which are timeless and applicable in today's age as well.

NEW RESEARCH FROM CERTIFIED CHILD LIFE SPECIALISTS: “You May Not Appreciate This Now, But You May Later”: A Qualitative Analysis of the Impact and Meaning of Legacy Interventions as Defined by Bereaved Parents. Four child life specialists rom Children's Hospital Colorado- Stephanie Barta, Foster Rosemund, Caroline Boyd and Jennifer Staab, collaborated with other hospital providers to research the meaning and impact of legacy with bereaved parents. Their findings are published in the Patient Experience Journal and include three main themes and the following conclusions: "Legacy interventions were reported as meaningful to participants because they connect them to their child, the treating hospital, and other bereaved families. To improve care for families whose child has a serious/terminal illness, professionals should be cognizant of the family's perception of legacy interventions and collaborate with the family's most trusted staff to help discuss and provide legacy interventions." A blog worth reading🩷 #homeshareworks
The difference that homeshare makes to families is staggering - Kath, the daughter of one of our householders, sums it up ... “Homeshare has really taken the pressure off our family. Being able to go to Mum’s home and spend quality time with her is so important. Homeshare has changed our lives.” Kath’s 90 year old mother’s needs increased due to a fall, and the family rallied round to make sure that someone was with her day and night. This worked in the short-term, but placed an enormous strain on the whole family. They wanted a longer-term solution that would fulfil their mother’s desire to remain living in her own home, and relieve the pressure the family were under. Homeshare means that the family can now spend quality time with their mum. Kath tells us about the difference homeshare has made to the entire family. https://lnkd.in/e2VECSxq

The Linkedin post prompt asks: What do you want to talk about? Well, as an end of life educator and death doula, I spend a lot of time talking about what others want to talk about but are often afraid to bring up...death. Here is an article that touches on why it is so important to bring conversations about death into casual, daily discourse: https://lnkd.in/euy8vai2

Three million people in the United States and 61 million worldwide died in 2023, according to the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A small portion may have written their life stories, but it’s a pretty safe bet that the vast majority did not. Ever since I became aware of the dramatic loss of knowledge and information that occurs when people die without writing their life stories for posterity, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to quantify the loss. With no expertise in mathematics, I relied on proxies to provide a rough idea of the magnitude of the disappearance at death of the accumulated knowledge of 61 million people. As a counter balance, I examined anecdotally what happens when the information is passed down through the generations. A guy named Johnnie C. Godwin has been writing a page a day in his journal for decades. Let’s say a page symbolizes one day of your life. Writing a page a day for 50 years, for instance, results in 18,250 pages. Overall Perspective What if practically none of the 61 million people who died last year wrote their life stories for posterity or otherwise preserved their own personal body of information? According to Google, 61 million x 18,250 equals more than 1 trillion — 1,113,250,000,000 to be exact — pages of knowledge and information, a staggering loss to history. While the number may seem comical, think for a moment about what it represents in terms of the loss to the world, especially when multiplied over and over for generations. Individual Perspective Five generations of Johnnie Godwin’s family have had the extraordinary benefit of knowing their family history intimately because Johnnie kept daily journals for years. His journal-writing habit was passed down from his mother. After inheriting his mother’s journals, Johnnie read about “the simple wedding of Dad and Mother.” He was able to read his mother’s “thoughts about my birth” within hours after it happened. Also, “I got to read a unique and touching and very personal story that told about her early life, its patterns, and about when and how she met my dad and their courtship during the great depression …” Johnnie’s wife, Phyllis, says she benefitted from his daily writing because he recorded their meeting, courtship and marriage. “The struggles, joys and blessings are there,” she said. “The birth of our three sons, eight grandchildren and growing group of 13 great grands are documented. We often use the journals for reminders or fact checking.” A perfect solution is to write your life story for posterity using your journals or diaries as resources. Those who lack journals or diaries can rely on their memories. Relying on memory is easier than it might appear because the Decade-by-Decade Method is chronological. The sooner you start, the better. https://lnkd.in/gUy2yiQN
