Shout out to the Government of Western Australia and the mining industry for taking positive action to address mental health, workplace culture, and safety. The Mental Awareness, Respect, and Safety (MARS) Program is designed to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement in the mining industry.   MARS is a great example of collaboration for the greater good. Led by the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, cross-agency partners include the Mental Health Commission of Western Australia, Equal Opportunity Commission, and Department of Communities WA. Edith Cowan University was the successful applicant for the Professorial Chair in Mining Work Health and Safety initiative. The MARS Centre at ECU's city hub focuses on research and education in the areas of workplace safety, respect and leadership, in the context of mining. In collaboration with industry experts, ECU has been developing tailored undergraduate and postgraduate programs to prepare the future mining workforce. Performed by professional actors, these vignettes will be woven throughout ECU’s course content to make it more engaging and meaningful to students. Larvotto has successfully raised $2,000,000 to accelerate development studies and exploration at our recently acquired Hillgrove gold-antimony project in New South Wales. Wogen Resources Ltd and Xcelsior Capital are currently completing exclusive due diligence as part of the US$8M financing package previously announced. Activity at the Hillgrove Project currently includes: 🔸 Metallurgical, mechanical, and processing studies 🔸 Initial Ore Reserve Estimation nearing completion  🔸 Permitting of Hillgrove production activities commenced Managing Director, Ron Heeks commented,  “To maintain momentum and advance Hillgrove, we wanted to accelerate development studies for Hillgrove’s production and continue exploration during the Wogen and Xcelsior DD process, which is expected to take several months. We’re also entering field season at our Mt Isa copper-gold project, now the wet season has ended and we are looking forward to recommencing exploration activity, to follow up the promising results from last season's fieldwork. This well-supported, but relatively small equity raise provides the capability to enable both projects to be progressed until the larger, non-dilutive fundraising package is completed. Disruptive Transformational Change Mariëtte Steyn's words at the WIMWA (Women in Mining and Resources WA ) Summit, “Disruptive Transformational Change”, resonated deeply. They took me back to a pivotal moment in my career...eight months into my graduate program. Just as Johan de Wet had closed the door to discuss Mariette’s next step (as mentioned in her presentation), she called me into the Superintendent’s office to offer me the role. I was shocked, scared, and humbled, but “I felt valued”. To this day it remains the defining moment of my career. While significant progress has been made regarding transformation, particularly due to the Mining Charter, challenges persist. We still encounter issues like a lack of appropriate PPE sizes for women, our female colleagues are not yet being fully accommodated, however, as Mariette rightly pointed out, disruption is underway. The growing demand for critical minerals is accelerating the pace of transformation. While she spoke of transformation in C-suite roles, her message is applicable to all levels of an organization, not just mining. It's up to each and every single one of us to create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. I’m grateful for the mentorship and support of Mariette Steyn, Lucas Ngobeni, and James Evans. Their guidance has helped shape my career and I owe all that I have become to them and the current Manganese Metal Company (Pty) Ltd owners. Their inspirational methodologies and implementation of positive leadership have continued to inspire me, and I leave every engagement with them feeling enlightened.   I commit to playing my part in driving positive change. In my position I’m often asked what sort of work we are doing in the decarbonisation space. This is an important topic in our current economy, and my team and I are passionate about fostering a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Queenslanders. Recently, I released the draft terms of reference (TOR) for environmental impact statements on the Cape Flattery Silica Sand and Northern Silica projects located near Hope Vale, 200km north from Cairns. Both these projects propose construction of mining areas and processing plants to produce product silica sand. Silica sand plays a significant role in the decarbonisation space. It’s a key critical mineral for the manufacturing of products aligned with decarbonisation and new-economy objectives like solar panels! Fun fact - Silica is also identified as a critical mineral in the Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy and Australia’s Critical Minerals List.
