This has been dubbed the ‘Woodstock of Heat Policy’ and is living up to the colloquial branding. Fantastic to be here and contribute a perspective from the finance sector on this important topic. I encourage everyone to read The Heat Will Kiill You First by Jeff Goodell as a primer on why this is such an important topic for society to grapple with.

Last night we kicked off Duke University’s HeatWise Policy Partnership Summit! This three-day event convenes 100+ experts from across the US. Their charge? Accelerating solutions for protecting communities against extreme heat.    These thought leaders from government, the private sector, community orgs, philanthropy, and academia joined us at Museum of Life and Science for a welcome event. In addition to plenty of networking time (and a parade with Paperhand Puppet Intervention), attendees heard from Ashley Ward (Heat Policy Innovation Hub at Duke’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability), Carrie M Heinonen and Max Cawley (Museum of Life & Science), and Bill Reilly (Nicholas Institute board chair and former US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator). They also sat in on a fireside chat with Ward and Jeff Goodell (author of ‘The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet'). A lively start to this summit!   Learn more about the summit: https://lnkd.in/d7GE_xvr   We’re so grateful to the sponsors who are helping make this event possible: Americares, Duke University's Office of Climate & Sustainability, Hagerty Consulting, The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, Museum of Life and Science, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), RWJF, North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech), Swiss Re, Trane Technologies.
