The introduction of the new border controls, with physical inspection beginning from the end of April, will see European companies facing the pain of border bureaucracy for the first time since the EU-UK post-Brexit trade deal came into force in January 2021. Importers preparing for the new border controls on plant and animal products from the EU, which are being phased in from this Wednesday, are still in the dark on what they will be charged for using government run border control posts. ⚠ New post-Brexit border checks are coming into force today! ⚡ The new regulations will affect the import of animal and plant products, including Polish meat (chicken, turkey, fish, and ham), which represents 8.6 percent of all goods imported by Britain from Poland. Agnieszka Kisielewska is quoted by the Times – our expert agrees that the border checks will help increase the phytosanitary security level. She raises concerns however around the communications campaign (or the lack of it) in advance of the new regulations coming into force.
