Director of Communications, Aircraft Electronics Association | Editor, Avionics News | Host, AEA Amplified Podcast
How big is the avionics repair station industry? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, avionics technicians accounted for 20,800 jobs in 2022. So there are 8 billion human beings, 336 million people in the United States, yet only 20,800 individuals work as avionics technicians in the U.S. Armed with this data, how do you communicate your company’s brand to a relatively small number of avionics professionals? As the AEA’s monthly publication and the largest, single representation of approved maintenance organizations in the world, Avionics News is the best answer. With a print circulation of approximately 10,000 subscribers and more than 30,000 readers, Avionics News also receives more than 600,000 page views annually in its web-based digital edition. To be a successful business, you must be present to win. So if you’re not here within these pages, exactly how and where are you reaching the #avionics community?
Each year in the month of July, thousands of extra copies of Avionics News are distributed from the AEA’s booth at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, and this year will be no different. Often dubbed the world’s greatest aviation celebration, nearly 700,000 aviation enthusiasts and more than 10,000 aircraft arrive at Wittman Regional Airport, making it the busiest airport in the world during the event. Many of those attendees will visit Hangar B to pick up this magazine as well as the AEA Pilot’s Guide, July 22-28. Celebrating Milestones in Aviation History on October 11 October 11 marks a significant date in the annals of aviation history, commemorating several milestones that have shaped the industry. This day serves as a reminder of the incredible achievements and technological advancements that have propelled aviation from its nascent stages to the sophisticated arena it is today. One of the notable events celebrated on this day is the first flight of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, which took place on October 11, 1964. The SR-71, renowned for its speed and stealth capabilities, was a pinnacle of engineering during the Cold War era. It set numerous speed and altitude records, demonstrating the potential of advanced aerodynamics and materials in aviation technology. Another landmark event is the establishment of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on October 11, 1944, under the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The ICAO plays a pivotal role in setting international standards and regulations, ensuring safe and orderly growth of global air transport. October 11 also marks the anniversary of the first commercial transatlantic flight by a British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) aircraft in 1939. This achievement laid the groundwork for the development of international air travel, connecting continents and cultures like never before. These milestones highlight the spirit of innovation and collaboration that has driven aviation forward. As we reflect on these achievements, we also look to the future, where new technologies such as electric and autonomous aircraft promise to redefine the possibilities of air travel. October 11 serves not only as a celebration of past successes but also as an inspiration for future advancements in aviation. #milestonesinaviationhistory #aviationhistory #SR71Blackbird #ICAOAnniversary #BOACTransatlanticFlight #AviationInnovation #AerospaceAdvancements #AviationTechRevolution

We welcome the publication of the Future of Flight Action Plan by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and the Future of Flight Industry Group this week, with its vision of a thriving, safe and sustainable UK future flight industry by 2030. The plan recognizes standardization as a key building block, including to support industry-wide interoperability and harmonization. BSI is addressing this need, in collaboration with the UK Government and the Civil Aviation Authority, through the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funded Future Flight Standards Programme. We look forward to continuing working closely with industry as market requirements evolve and as we develop a standards roadmap to enable the strategy.
