The language we use can help us to understand and cope with this disease that impacts the lives of so many. It can also help us to connect directly with those who are going through it in a way that centers their needs to maximize health and well being. Cancer is a diagnosis that changes everything. It's a time of fear, uncertainty, and hope. It's a time of ups and downs, of progress and setbacks. It's a time of love, support and strength. Some people talk about cancer as a journey. This can be a helpful way to frame the experience, as it can help us to see cancer as a process with a beginning, middle, and end. It can also help us to focus on the progress we're making, even when it's slow. Other approach it as a battle. This can also be a useful way to look at things, as it can help us to see cancer as something that we can fight. It can also help us to find the strength to keep going, even when things are tough. We all know Jay is a fighter. For him and his family, this is a battle AND a journey. So far it's been filled with good days and bad days, steps forward and back.
